KC Weddings Bridal Spectacular

Come see me next Saturday at the KC Weddings Bridal Spectacular at the Overland Park Convention Center! We will have a GREAT booth set up full of album samples, canvases, all kinds of slideshows and a GREAT contest – one lucky winner (drawn by the show organizers at the end of the day) will win an engagement session, session CD AND guestbook album from me! Go check out the highlights from last year’s winners, Candace and Tim, here!

I’ll have my sometimes-assistant Lori helping me out in the booth for the day. Stop by, say hi, ask questions, heck, even grab some literature while you are at it…and don’t forget to enter the drawing! We are in Booth 928. See you on the 8th!

Jessica + Gabe: married | Pilgrim Chapel and the Farm House, Kansas City

Jessica and Gabe were married in a very small, private ceremony at the gorgeous yet quaint Pilgrim Chapel on the edge of Kansas City’s Hyde Park. I say very small because as I recall, there were 14 guests present! The ceremony was so close-knit – for instance, instead of walking down the aisle at the end of the ceremony, Jessica and Gabe immediately went to their family for hugs and well-wishes. After the ceremony, we shot around the River Market – not only home to their reception at the Farm House (a restaurant now on my must-try list featuring locally-grown and produced foods – just LOOK at the food collage below!), but also THEIR home. Their beagle joined us for a few shots as well and we documented the area as best as we could, as was their wish since they will be moving to Dayton, Ohio next year! I hope you two had a fantastic honeymoon – here’s a sneak peek from the afternoon I spent with you all!

several reasons below why you should give the Farm House in the River Market a try. Yum!

I loved this reception. It wasn’t a traditional reception – just hors d’oeuvres, visiting, then dinner – which allowed me to just be a “fly on the wall” and shoot more photojournalistically – capturing conversation, laughs, and good times.

Brooke + AJ: couples portrait session | downtown Kansas City and Power and Light

December 24th, 2010

Brooke and AJ are so damn adorable together. There, I said it. They are ADORABLE! I don’t think you probably find “US Marine” and “adorable” in the same sentence often, but just look at the images below – I dare you to not agree with me! It was c-c-c-cold during this session, but I honestly […]

I don’t think you probably find “US Marine” and “adorable” in the same sentence often, but just look at the images below – I dare you to not agree with me! It was c-c-c-cold during this session, but I honestly had the most fun I’ve had on a session in a while. 🙂 AJ is home from San Diego for the holidays – and Brooke jumped at the opportunity to get some portraits done with the two of them. Merry Christmas to both of you – enjoy your time together – and AJ, thank you for your service.

Jyottika and Arwind: maternity session

I met Jyottika and Arwind at their Shawnee home last weekend to shoot a maternity session for them as well as cover the start of Jyottika’s baby shower at her parent’s house. These two are expecting a baby boy in February and the whole family is SO exited 🙂 We spent part of the maternity […]

I met Jyottika and Arwind at their Shawnee home last weekend to shoot a maternity session for them as well as cover the start of Jyottika’s baby shower at her parent’s house. These two are expecting a baby boy in February and the whole family is SO exited 🙂 We spent part of the maternity session in their home, then braved the elements for a few outdoor shots at the end (my idea which they readily went along with). I LOVE winter landscapes! Congratulations to you two!

Emilie + Terrol | the Eldridge and Plymouth Congregational wedding, Lawrence Kansas

December 17th, 2010

I have been SO excited to blog this wedding ever since I shot it. SO excited. This week has been so trying for me – ’twas the week before Christmas….and I’ve done nothing but fill orders. I’m blessed to have so many great clients and I’ve had so many HUGE orders this week with my […]

I have been SO excited to blog this wedding ever since I shot it. SO excited. This week has been so trying for me – ’twas the week before Christmas….and I’ve done nothing but fill orders. I’m blessed to have so many great clients and I’ve had so many HUGE orders this week with my sale – but it’s darn near killed me. I’ve been sick all week and have barely slept! So…I got up at 5am to finally finish blogging this wedding that I have been trying to blog ALL WEEK.

And here it is. I LOVED working with Emilie and Terrol. Their engagement session at Shawnee Mission Park was one of my best sessions to date when I shot it – and I knew shooting their wedding was going to be so easy. Why? Because these two love each other SO much. I have to do nothing but shoot. And smile. The wedding was no different; and I had some different (and honestly challenging) conditions to work with in that the two did not see each other until the ceremony – which was nearly candle-lit (and was candle-lit at times). Once the ceremony was over, the bride/groom and wedding party portraits were obviously going to be done after dark. Which means LOTS of lighting. I really prepped for this one, though, and my assistant extraordinaire Lori Fetterling truly saved the day by helping move and hold lighting. I could not have worked as efficiently as I did without her, and her help this season on numerous weddings has been a godsend. The bride and groom portraits here are different from anything I’ve ever done, and I’m really excited to share them with you all. I think the holiday and old-Hollywood-glam feel was really shining through.

Here you go. Enjoy. Happy Holidays. And congratulations to Emilie and Terrol!

Right after Katie and Ryan’s engagement session last week, I headed over to Union Station to shoot a family portrait session with the O’Connor family: Tamara, Casey and Taylor. We had enough daylight to shoot at the foot of Liberty Memorial for a bit, then headed inside for some awesome holiday-themed shots inside Union Station. […]

Katie + Ryan | Kansas City Crossroads Art District engagement session

December 15th, 2010

Katie and Ryan got their engagement session in juuuuust before I went on a brief vacation, juuuuust before the bottom fell out on our temperatures, and juuuuuust before I got sick 🙁 In other words, they have good timing! Several of my lenses went off to Canon for end-of-the-year maintenance (let’s just say numerous lenses […]

Katie and Ryan got their engagement session in juuuuust before I went on a brief vacation, juuuuust before the bottom fell out on our temperatures, and juuuuuust before I got sick 🙁 In other words, they have good timing! Several of my lenses went off to Canon for end-of-the-year maintenance (let’s just say numerous lenses absolutely limped across the finish line this year from the incessant abuse) and had JUST come back for this session…and WOW are they ever fixed. So excited. Ryan and Katie were a lot of fun to shoot with and hopefully Katie, a SoCal transplant, didn’t freeze TOO badly. We’d hoped to find a football field for part of the session as well (Ryan played for Nebraska!) but who knew how many fields were under lock and key…we decided to keep it all in one spot to maximize daylight.

Congratulations guys, best of luck with your wedding planning (Hawaii!!), and here’s your sneak peek!

I met Katie and Jason through Shana Vaughn of Shana Vaughn Designs, whom I sublease my studio space from and who is also good friends with Katie….AND did her wedding flowers. I absolutely LOVED working with these two, starting off with their engagement session earlier in the fall. We had TONS of time to roam about town and shoot with the wedding party before the ceremony, which was held mid-evening with a late evening reception at the Grand Reserve downtown. Katie and Jason are SUCH a happy couple, and Katie positively RADIATED as a bride. You’ll see below. 🙂 Plus, she is so amazingly sweet and thoughtful – I couldn’t get her to stop thanking me and my second shooter Mike Tsai throughout the day!

I’m a bit late in blogging this one – I’ve been working nonstop and I mean NONSTOP (let’s just say I’m having wrist and elbow issues from using my Wacom pen all day (and evening) for days on end) on catching up on editing sessions for clients. I wanted these two to get their sneak peek before I head off to New York City for a few days, though! Congratulations guys!!!
