I met Brette, her mother, and their black lab Piper on the Plaza late yesterday afternoon to do her senior session. I was a bit concerned about the weather but we got it in – it didn’t start pouring until I hit downtown on the drive home! Brette, best of luck at K-State next fall!

Brittani and Brandon: married | Kansas City wedding photographyApril 25th, 2010This was a FUN, FUN wedding. Brittani was worried about rain. I was worried about rain. It rained all day. This was a FUN, FUN wedding. Brittani was worried about rain. I was worried about rain.
It rained all day.
You know what? No one noticed. These two love each other, and they love their daughter Hailey. I get misty-eyed at weddings sometimes, but this one was full of misty-eyed moments. Hailey is the most adorable girl ever, and I tried to capture that in my photos. Brittani and Brandon are so in love, and I tried to capture that in photos. Their families are very close, and I tried to capture that in photos. The weather SUCKED, and….well, I tried to hide that in my photos.
Brittani and Brandon, congratulations, and yesterday was the start of the rest of your lives.
Brittani was all smiles every single time she looked at herself in the mirror throughout the day. I LOVED it!

I love this shot. Her bridesmaids loved her transformation into a bride, too.

who has to worry about rain with colors like these?

Hailey sees her mom in her dress!

Seriously, girl….sexxxxxyyyy….

seriously. I saw the wink coming, and had lighting fast reflexes (for once). How adorable.

Then off to the park, again, in the pouring rain….again…..we worked with it.
(Brittani and Brandon chose not to see each other before the ceremony, and it was nearly dark when we went to shoot, and of course raining…so we got creative.)

I love it when the breeze blows hair just so…

At times, Julia looks a wee bit like Jessica Simpson. Y’think?

Michael’s senior shoot yesterday had two very distinct parts, as you’ll see in the images below – it could have been two entirely different shoots! We started at the Airline History Museum, as Michael is soon-to-be an aerospace engineering student at Wichita State and really wanted to involve airplanes in part of his shoot. Being an active member (and board member!) at the AHM, I knew that was the perfect spot to get some really dramatic shots. We shot with the hangar closed up to give the photos a very dark, vintage, of-the-era feel. Of course I’m a pilot and airplane geek myself so I could go on and on about that part of the shoot, but we’ll instead stick to pictures. But I’ll still add a shameless plug for the museum as it’s a great place to go see that is about to, over time, become much better – and they are always looking for volunteers and new members! Go to www.ahmhangar.com for more information and Gwyn, thanks for your help in coordinating the after-hours shoot!
We then went on to the riverfront park in Parkville, Missouri to do some nice shots in a natural setting. We were both scared of running into a snake near the creek, but we survived sans snake sightings.
Michael with an original TWA DC-3, presently being restored to flying condition.

This shot isn’t done justice until it’s viewed SUPER big. The black and white version is quite stunning, too.

What a glorious place to shoot in the springtime! I wanted to stay past our session and just soak in the fresh air. Thanks Kendra for wandering off the beaten path in your sandals – at least your photographer was equally unprepared to go schlepping through the brush!
Up next is Michael’s senior session, which will probably hit the blog tomorrow AM!

I’ve got a couple of newsworthy notes I wanted to pass along to everyone.
First, I am closing my books on Saturday weddings through December 4. That means, I am booked full on Saturdays this season with the exception of a couple of vacation Saturdays I’ve kept open for myself, through December 4th! I could not have done this without all of the wonderful clients I’ve been blessed with this year. I will still accept a handful of Friday or Sunday dates this season – but those will be limited in number as well to keep my workload in check. So if you have a Friday or Sunday date in 2010 and are still considering my services, hop to it!
Saturday dates from December 11 onward are still open for booking (if the date is open, that is!). 2011 weddings are already booking in at a good clip.
In other news related to booking weddings with SDP, we have changed our retainer amount, effective immediately, to a flat $500 fee. The old policy was to require 30% of the cost of the wedding package, however, we offer such a wide range of packages now that I felt it was more fair to institute a flat rate for the retainer. The balance due still remains due 7 days before your wedding date. Of course, you can pay any amount towards your wedding at any time, and with every payment received you will be sent an updated invoice showing the current balance due.
Again, thank you all SO much for your support and I am so incredibly excited for 2010, which officially kicks off with a vengeance April 24th!
