Kylie and Caleb wanted to have a more country-type setting for their engagement session, and not being from the Topeka area, I of course had NO idea where to start. Driving back from Lacy and Adam’s Topeka engagement session, I took a back highway and happened upon the Old Stone House bed and breakfast, which was the most gorgeous little farm that just struck me as awesome for Kylie and Caleb’s session. Of course, dumb me didn’t stop, so I didn’t see the name of the place. Some Google research turned up the name, and a quick email to the SUPER gracious owner, Sabra, resulted in us having permission to roam the property and shoot. I was one happy photographer.

We also wandered down 40 Highway to Big Spring, making a couple of more stops to complete the session with the couple (who won this engagement session as part of my Topeka Bridal Fair giveaway, Lacy and Adam being the other recipients!). Here are some results of our gorgeous, GLORIOUS sunny morning!

Isn’t Kylie a cutie in those cowboy boots? A girl after my own heart!

Katherine, Kevin and I had a lot of fun Tuesday evening wandering the Country Club Plaza and Loose Park for their engagement session. We narrowly missed stormy weather and were stuck with clouds for the first half of the shoot – but as soon as we headed to Loose Park that late day sun came out in all of its gorgeous glory! Have fun with your wedding planning, guys, and good luck to Kevin as he starts graduate school in Texas!

Pam and Rudy: married | Kansas City wedding photography

Warning: 56k overload below. This is a BIG post. But probably because I shot Pam and Rudy’s day for over 12 hours – that makes a lot of pictures. And probably because we spent over 2 hours JUST doing bride and groom shots before the ceremony. And another hour doing wedding party shots and MORE bride and groom shots. We were ALL OVER Kansas City.

But that’s not the whole story. The cool thing about this wedding was how intimate it was, how much family was involved in the day. I truly felt like I got to know everyone, even if just a bit. And that makes me really smile – I feel really involved. And wow, did this family travel – much of Pam’s family is in the Northeast (where she grew up) and her parents traveled in from Canada. Rudy’s mom won the prize for furthest distance traveled – the Dominican Republic!

Even though the reception (held in Rudy and Pam’s backyard) was intimate, it was definitely still a PARTY. I have never seen such dance moves! The whole reception made me..I don’t know, smile? :)

Enough gushing about this couple and their families, though. I know why you are really here – PICTURES!

Pam and Rudy wanted to allow a ton of time for bride/groom shots. With nearly two hours at our disposal, and then another hour with the bridal party, we got some great locations and great shots in. I’ll open up with this crazy shot of Pam. It was windy, but if you’re patient, that can be an awesome thing. Hello, gorgeous!

Gosh darn it, it did it AGAIN!

It rained.

This wedding season has been a bit, um, tough on those of us in the photography business. I’ve shot 4 weddings so far this season, and we’ve had a snowstorm, 2 rainstorms (both in St. Joseph), and a cloudy day where the sun decided to NOT be bashful for a short while. The good news? I’m getting used to it. The better news? It didn’t affect the awesomeness of Gary and Lindsey’s day at ALL.

I met these two last fall and shot their engagement session in Kansas City’s River Market on a (ahem) very sunny evening. I always love to work with clients before their wedding day – it establishes a rapport and gets any “camera shyness” out of the couple’s system. So, I was really looking forward to this wedding, right up I-29 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Naturally, it was dry up until time to head out to shoot bride/groom and wedding party shots – then it cut loose. We decided to make the best of it and headed for a parking garage at Lindsey’s suggestion. It didn’t stop the rest of the day – but what can I say, they always say it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day…

Hope it is nice and SUNNY in Mexico right now, guys!

I was warned that Callie, Lindsey’s niece, liked to “cheese” for the camera. We also found some shyness, too..

Becky + Adam: Kauffman Stadium engagement session

May 5th, 2010

Becky and Adam share a love for softball and baseball – they both play in co-ed leagues and Adam is a walking Royals encyclopedia that probably rivals my husband’s knowledge of the team (Lord help us if the two ever got together). When Becky told me that she wanted their engagement session to center around baseball and/or softball and preferably at a ballpark somewhere in town, we aimed for the big Kahuna – the Kansas City Royals. She wanted to surprise Adam with the shoot location, but couldn’t keep it to herself (understandably!). What an awesome location and even more awesome than the location was the natural connection these two have. I think it’s pretty evident in the shots. Many thanks to our tour guide, Ben, who gave us the royal treatment (no pun intended) and carted us around on a golf cart.

After leaving “the K”, we went to The Point near the Country Club Plaza, a place where Becky and Adam first met by chance and well…you know the rest of the story!

Again, look for these two again soon when I shoot their wedding in early July!

Adam shares the same birthday as George Brett. As such, he’s a huge George Brett fan. I can identify. I grew up watching the Royals when they were AWESOME – not to date myself, but I was in 7th grade when they won the ’85 World Series. I too loved George Brett. Perhaps a bit TOO much, I was always number 5 in softball and soccer, and I used to have childhood angst that he had to be so much older than I so I couldn’t marry him :p
Kansas City, Missouri engagement photographers

Another George Brett tribute inside the Royals Hall of Fame: 3,154 baseballs make up the number 5 – his total number of career hits – in the center is the bat that garnered him his 3,000th hit.
