Jana + Scott | Lawrence, Kansas engagement session

December 8th, 2010

Jana and Scott met me in Lawrence on a cool Saturday morning (what’s that? A Saturday without a wedding? I didn’t know what to do with myself!) for their engagement session. Jana and Scott met me in Lawrence on a cool Saturday morning (what’s that? A Saturday without a wedding? I didn’t know what to do with myself!) for their engagement session. They wanted to center the session around the KU campus, which even as a MU fan, is absolutely gorgeous. πŸ™‚ They even arranged ahead of time to get us access to the rooftop of the Oread Hotel so we could get some shots high above downtown Lawrence. You’ll see more of this couple before you know it – I’ll be shooting their wedding in March!

Upcoming vacation/studio closure

Hello! I’ve been sequestered away trying to catch up on editing from this fall…yes, STILL (and believe me, no one will be more relieved than I when the “to-edit” list is down to only very current sessions) – so the blog hasn’t been updated in the past week to 10 days. I’ve got a wedding, an engagement session, and a family session to hit the blog this week – so you’ll see some new stuff.

I wanted to let everyone know that SDP will be CLOSED December 10-13th. Hubs and I will be vacationing in New York City – which, aside from Thanksgiving day, will be my first days off since JULY – as such, I will NOT be answering voicemails and emails during this 4 day period so I can have some quality time with my husband who has been SO patient with my schedule this Β year. I will be back to everyone as soon as I am back in town and back hard at work on the 14th.

The print sale continues until the 15th – all orders received by the MORNING of the 9th (Thursday) will be filled before I leave. All orders received after this time will be sent off for printing and shipment when I return. So if you are hanging onto an order that you’d really like for Christmas, get it in ASAP. Also, along those lines, I HIGHLY suggest using expedited shipping if you do really need a print order in time for Christmas. The lab is on the west coast and standard shipping is via First Class mail – so if you choose that option, it will be “at your own risk” at this point as far as getting stuff in for Christmas.

Thank you all for your continued business and “blog following” and you’ll see some new stuff posted this week before I head out! πŸ™‚

Drew wore cowboy boots and Marie wore sequined ruby slippers. TOO CUTE. For their wedding, they moved to all cowboy boots to symbolize Marie’s upcoming move to Texas and re-did the shot. We had a blast shooting around Shawnee Mission Park on an unseasonably warm November afternoon between the ceremony and reception – this was a super fun wedding party!!

We unfortunately missed the Plaza lights by a few days but we still got some super cool shots! Caitlyn is hoping to attend the Kansas City Art Institute and wants to pursue an art degree – so we worked some of her love for art into the first half of the shoot and got some super cute stuff. πŸ™‚

The Brick family lucked out and got a 60+ degree day for their family portrait session at English Landing Park in Parkville, Missouri…which this time of year, boils down to exactly that, pure LUCK! Nick + Jessie: married | Wea, Kansas and the Sawyer Room, Kansas City

Nick and Jessie’s story of how they got engaged and how I came to be their wedding photographer is definitely the most unique story of the year. You see, I like to fly airplanes. I like to teach people how to fly airplanes, and I also during the holidays do a few Plaza scenic flights for couples out of my flight school, ATD Flight Systems. Nick called me to schedule a Plaza flight last year and told me that it would be a proposal flight. Of course, these are my favorite Plaza flights πŸ˜‰ and I anxiously awaited their flight hoping for good weather and no reschedules. The weather WAS good, Nick DID propose to Jessie, and then next thing I know, I’m meeting them to discuss shooting their wedding!

So obviously I had a fun connection with the two – I mean, how many wedding photographers are present at the moment their couples actually GET engaged! πŸ™‚

We had cool but sunny weather for Nick and Jessie’s wedding day, which started off in tiny Wea, Kansas near the Miami/Johnson county line at Queen of the Holy Rosary. After the ceremony, we headed on to Liberty Memorial for some sunset shots and after a brief stop at QuikTrip (yes, really!) we headed to the Crossroads Art District for some night shots. We finished off the night at the Sawyer Room downtown which is one of my absolute favorite venues. Second shooter extraordinaire Mike Tsai helped me with this one, and a few of the shots below are his!

We will start this one off with the shot that started it all! This is last holiday season at the Kansas City downtown airport, at the end of our flight and just minutes after Nick popped the question. πŸ™‚
