Shannon and David met me the same day as Sophie’s senior shoot below – but late in the afternoon. The light was just as gorgeous as it was in the morning. Oh sun, how I’ve missed thee! We wandered around the West Bottoms and the River Market during the shoot. You’ll be seeing more of this couple in mid July when I shoot their wedding here in Kansas City!

I LOVE the way these two smile at each other. What a great connection. And they did it through the entire shoot!

Seth called me last week and wanted to schedule a “surprise” engagement session for his fiance, Adriane – Seth is a Marine and is returning to Quantico, Virginia today. We scheduled for Sunday – which turned out to not be so much of a surprise when Seth realized Adriane was going to have to plan clothing changes and such! The weather the first half of the day was positively dreary with heavy mist and low overcast, but it broke up enough in the afternoon that we were able to get some serious work done. We wandered quite a bit and discovered a lot of new places – which I always appreciate! Kansas City is just a great city to explore from a photographic standpoint. I had a hard time narrrowing down the selection for the blog…there are some additional shots on my Facebook fan page (you are a fan of SDP, right? ;) ) Seth and Adriane – I wish you the BEST of times ahead!!

Ok. Let’s set one thing straight – Semper Fi! (my father was a Marine, Vietnam vet – and my assistant Lori’s son Ted just became one as well!)

Callie and Adam are a seriously awesome couple. Callie is new to Kansas City, having moved here from Alabama. She contacted me to do their engagement session a few weeks ago, since it was going to be a bit difficult to have shots done back at home. All I can say is that I’m seriously jealous of their wedding photographer – because they will have it EASY with these two! They have a serious connection as well as an uncanny ability to work it out for the camera! They were so at ease and had so much fun, all I had to do was some minor directing and shoot away! Guys, I hope you enjoy these as much as I’ve enjoyed prepping them for the blog.

Emily and Tom: engaged

November 9, 2009

Emily and Tom live in Davenport, Iowa presently – where Tom is attending chiropractic school. Since they live such a long way away (I’ve driven up there before – it’s a bit of a hike!), we had to plan their engagement session WAY in advance. Emily was nervous about the weather, and understandably so – we’ve had measureable snowfall by now some years – and watching the news last night, the meteorologist pointed out the record low was ONE DEGREE. One. single. degree. Emily emailed me a couple of weeks beforehand, and asked if we might be able to go the weekend before if the weather looked iffy for the Saturday we had scheduled.

No need. Last Saturday – our originally scheduled Saturday – was the most gorgeous day EV-ER. I mean, photographers don’t dream of sheep leaping fences. We dream of days like this. Emily and Tom brought along Maddie, their dog, to be a part of the shoot. We wandered the quiet, early-morning streets of the Country Club Plaza, then found some quiet alleys and facades in the Crossroads District. Here’s a sample of what we happened upon. Guys, I can’t wait for your wedding next year!!

Malorie and Matt: engaged

October 23, 2009

Greetings from brisk Boston! I’m here visiting family for the weekend, and promised I’d get Malorie and Matt’s blog up today, freshly edited on the plane on the way here! :) This couple (whose wedding I’ll be shooting next June) was super comfy in front of the camera and it shows in the following images. We had fun!! (maybe except for the homeless guy asking me for cigarettes…) Enjoy, guys!

Lindsey + Gary: engaged

September 30, 2009

I’m shooting Lindsey and Gary’s wedding in 2010, and we met up last Sunday to kick things off with their engagement shoot! They drove down from St. Joseph for our River Market shoot last Sunday and we had a gorgeous day to work with. (I think when you see the shots you will agree!) We also wandered a little off the beaten path and found some cool places to shoot. Guys, I am so excited to shoot your wedding next May!!! :)

engaged: Karen + Damon

August 30, 2009

Gorgeous light is the theme through Karen and Damon’s session. They chose the Country Club Plaza for the backdrop of their shoot, and they were game when their photographer decided to go shoot at a site at the exact opposite side of the Plaza from where we started. :) An hour later I emerged victorious with the shots I totally wanted to get of these two, although in the name of fashion (and I thought comfort?) I was wearing a pair of adorned sandals whose adornment ate HOLES in my toes. We trudged back to our starting point, me half-wearing my sandals (it was either that or go barefoot!). This couple WORKED IT OUT for the camera – and light added the finishing touch. Karen and Damon – have a GREAT WEDDING next month in Illinois and I wish the best for the two of you!! :)

engaged: Catherine + Jeff

August 28, 2009

Morning dawned bright, cool and gorgeous last Sunday for Catherine and Jeff’s engagement session. They deserved it, as we originally scheduled earlier that week when it was gray and at times, pouring rain. While shooting in the rain can make for some really cool work, we decided holding umbrellas and camera gear in lightning storms was not the smartest idea. So, here we are back at Sunday. Catherine and Jeff wanted to make their dog Dublin a part of their shoot. Why not? It’s clear he’s very much a member of their family. Though a puppy still and really wound at the start of our shoot, he settled down and I could tell he was absolutely digging the morning. As was I. The light was incredible. I left eager to edit and get the shoot blogged, but a week full of other shoots delayed my efforts and well, I try to be Super Woman but really, I usually fail at that. :) Catherine and Jeff, best of luck with all of your wedding preparations and I am super jealous of your wedding day plans! (they are getting married in their home state of South Carolina on a plantation…um WOW…)

Engaged: Bev + Jason

August 19, 2009

Bev and Jason are getting married in just a couple of weeks now, so we scoped out their wedding and reception site at Shawnee Lake in Topeka, Kansas to go over last minute details and, since I’d not been there before, get some ideas for the day of the wedding. The pergola at the lake, which is where the ceremony will be, is completely surrounded by all kinds of incredible floral landscaping. We definitely will not be short on color in our photos on their wedding day! While we were there, we did some impromptu shots – I don’t know that I’d call this a full-fledged “engagement” session, but in any event, here are a few! Bev and Jason – looking forward to photographing your wedding in two weeks!
