Here’s another couple you’ll see more of right here on the ‘ol blog next year – Alisha and Joe will be getting married at the Hawthorne House (which I’ve always wanted to shoot and will finally get to!) next May. They had a gorgeous day for their engagement session around downtown Parkville Missouri and English Landing – and some remarkable light at the end of the shoot. Beyond that, though, is the great connection these two have – one that us photographers love to photograph, but can’t really coach – it’s just there.

August 25, 2010Amy and Bob, hands down, win the award for the longest engagement session ever. 5 weeks, to be exact. We had planned their engagement session in late June originally, and a severe thunderstorm abruptly ended our session at about the halfway mark. We made plans to reschedule the second half, and got stymied repeatedly; weather, traveling for Amy and Bob, my vacation, more weather….needless to say, since the first half of the session was shot with dark skies, we were determined to have sunshine. We finally finished up the session at Loose Park on a bright sunny morning and below are our results. This couple will be getting married next year in Texas.

August 20, 2010Elena and Travis: engaged | Parkville, Missouri
August 15, 2010Elena and Travis are simply the most adorable couple ever. Game over. They just radiate fun and love and good times and it so, so totally shows in their images below. And they did so even in the worst possible summer conditions – the actual temperature was over 100 degrees at the time of the shoot. They brought along their dog Alfie, who had tons of energy despite the heat until she realized it was..um…HOT! Elena and Travis came armed with a huge jug of water for the three of them and a roving plastic dish for Alfie and we made it through just fine.
The days are getting shorter which you might think of as a negative, but the positive is that you don’t have to shoot super late to hit the absolute best light. The light during this session was nothing short of phenomenal!
I hope the two of you are recovered! My clothes I wore that evening were STILL damp when I sorted laundry this AM. Eww!
Victoria and Anthony came to Kansas City last week from Washington, D.C., where they reside, to work on planning their June 2011 Kansas City wedding. They not only booked their photographer for the wedding
, but they wasted no time in getting their engagement photos done! Victoria was brimming with ideas (and smiles) and we went from the Plaza to Loose Park to the Crossroads Art District until we ran out of good morning light and ran out of steam (it was hot!). These two have GREAT personalities which makes photographing their natural interaction a complete breeze.
You can look for more from these two, right here, next June!
I felt a bit bad for Katie and Jeremy as they had perhaps the hottest day of the year for their engagement session. Just when I thought it was hot, it just kept getting hotter! We worked on keeping them in open shade, though, and worked their dogs into the shots early on in the session so they could go home with Katie’s parents and not be in the heat for the entire session. This is yet another couple whose wedding I’ll be photographing – in late September!
Amy Jo and Jacob: engaged | Leavenworth, Kansas
June 25, 2010Amy Jo and Jacob chose to do their shoot on Amy Jo’s family farm as well as some nearby wheat fields. I’ve been getting quite a few rural/country engagement shoot requests lately – and being a country girl myself – LOVE it! It threatened to storm for much of this session, but we got it in and had some super fun settings to work with, as you’ll see. You can look for much more from this couple when I shoot their wedding in September!
Continuing on with our bridal show giveaway winners from last winner, here’s our last couple! Candace and Tim were the lucky winners of my KC Weddings Bridal Show engagement session contest! They chose the Country Club Plaza and Shawnee Mission Park for locations, and we had a gorgeous evening last Friday to shoot!
Congrats again guys!
Candace and Tim brought their dog Max along for part of the session. Who I kept calling “Rudy”….for some reason he reminded me of my late grandmother’s dog.

Candace and Tim requested shots at the spot where they got engaged. ![]()

Katherine, Kevin and I had a lot of fun Tuesday evening wandering the Country Club Plaza and Loose Park for their engagement session. We narrowly missed stormy weather and were stuck with clouds for the first half of the shoot – but as soon as we headed to Loose Park that late day sun came out in all of its gorgeous glory! Have fun with your wedding planning, guys, and good luck to Kevin as he starts graduate school in Texas!
