A lot of clients wait until the holidays to place print, canvas, and digital file orders. Well, this is that one time that  your procrastination pays off! From Black Friday and continuing for two weeks, I’m holding my annual 25% off sale. Everything in my online galleries at http://sarahdickersonphotography.zenfolio.com/ is on sale during this time! If you can’t find your galleries, email me. Or, if you have a shoot or wedding prior to 2013 that you’d like to see again in order to place an order, I can put a temporary gallery online for you.

I have some important announcements coming up, but the most important is that I am trimming down SDP quite significantly in 2016. (No, I’m not going away, I’m just stepping back for a while to concentrate on another project – so to my regular family clients I see nearly every year, I’ll still be able to serve you!) Along with this, I’m making this my last official holiday sale. So, to those clients who have always thought of taking advantage and, say, ordering that canvas you really want above your couch, speak now or forever hold your peace! This is IT!

Taking advantage is simple – just enter the code SDPHoliday at checkout anytime from the time the clock strikes midnight on Thanksgiving and turns to Black Friday, up through 11:59pm on Friday, December 11th. Happy Shopping! If you have any questions at all, email me!

Hello all! September, October, and the first half of November are RIGHT around the corner and that stretch is my busiest time of the year, by far. Historically I have shot 75% of my annual portrait sessions IN THIS STRETCH ALONE. I book up extremely early for especially October, and this year is no different. September, at the time of this post, has more availability than October does, and I anticipate that October may be fully booked by some time shortly after Labor Day. November is a gorgeous time of year to shoot as well, especially early in the month before the last of the fall color is gone. My October 11th mini session day is almost completely booked. Right now I have two mini session slots left – 1pm and 2pm. If you would like to snag either, please send me an email ! I am considering adding a second, half-day of mini sessions on November 1st….but this is not a guarantee until I fill the October 11th date. For my regular sessions, whether it be family, engagement, senior or otherwise, I have a defined list of the dates and times I have remaining in September, October and November that are still available; if you are interested in booking, please feel free to email me for this list! Once they are gone, they are gone and I am booked for the fall season, so jump on it! You can view my pricing on each respective sub-site of my main site, so follow the links below!

Again, I expect to be fully booked for fall very shortly, so if you are even considering a session please shoot me an email! Enjoy this weather!

Summer is here! Get your portrait sessions in before the fall rush!

Who doesn’t love a good sale? Summertime is a great time to shoot portraits! It’s a bit of a lull for me as far as weddings go; and honestly portraits as well. Come September and October, my schedule gets QUITE tricky as I have weddings booked every single weekend both months (a few of which are out of town and involve travel time outside of Saturday), and I get absolutely inundated with portrait session bookings. So, for those that want to plan ahead, now is your time to capitalize! I am offering 25% off full portrait sessions (mini sessions are not included, though I do have slots still available both July 12th and October 11th for those sessions, see here for information!) during the months of July and August. The session must be photographed in one of those two months. This is a great opportunity to get ahead of schedule with your soon-to-be high school senior, or perhaps shoot a boudoir session for your husband-to-be. Or schedule your family portraits or newborn session during this time! Getting married away and just need an engagement session? Now is your chance for that as well! To see my pricing and details for various portrait sessions, please visit one of the following links:

Boudoir sessions

Family/child/infant sessions (also includes “standalone” engagement session pricing)

Senior sessions

Rules? Yep, there are a few, but nothing too crazy. 😉 As mentioned, the session must be shot in July or August. Don’t worry, if we are photographing outdoors and the forecast is for 100 degrees, yes we can reschedule! To book your date, you MUST return a portrait agreement and a nonrefundable $75 deposit which is applied toward your balance – that will be due at the session. There are no exceptions to this – my dates are limited and the date is not yours until I receive the agreement and deposit. I hate to be the “booking police”, but I’ve had a rash of people “booking” dates this spring and not following through, which is disappointing. If I hold a date for a client, I need to know they are serious about the session – or I will have to move to the next client in line. 🙂 All you have to do to get booked is send me an email – and we’ll decide on a date and time and I’ll get the agreement to you! You can either return it via email and call with a credit card, or return it with a check via USPS – and you are booked!

As stated, the summer is a great time to get a session scheduled without the craziness that fall brings – and each fall I unfortunately do have to turn away clients because my schedule is completely full. So plan ahead, and save some money while you are at it!

Jackson W | newborn lifestyle session

June 14th, 2015

Most of the newborn and toddler sessions I photograph are in-studio, complete with props and carefully-orchestrated backdrops and settings. However, a type of session rapidly increasing in popularity is a lifestyle-type newborn session – think “day in the life”, portraying the new family interacting as well as the typical portrait shots of the new arrival. A couple of weeks ago, I drove to Lawrence to photograph one such session for Amanda and Jordan, whose wedding I also photographed (I love watching my couples begin their families!). It was a dark, stormy day – but the home was bright with love and excitement and I just love this session!

Interested in booking this type of session for your family? Email me!

He was such a sweet, mild-mannered, quite little guy. Before we got underway with his own session, we got a couple of updated family photos outside of the studio. I’m so lucky to have such a beautiful outdoor space right outside my studio doors!

The one thing I love about the photography community in Kansas City is that many of us full-timers are quite close and get together often. One such gathering occurred a few weeks ago; a group of ladies assembled to discuss lighting with off camera equipment and flashes at a photographer’s studio in the Crossroads, and this turned into an impromptu nighttime street shoot, featuring local photographer Deanna, who was actually due with her 3rd child just 5 days later! Here are the images I took that evening. A big congrats to Deanna on welcoming her son, Britton, into the world! This obviously is very different from the vast majority of maternity portrait sessions, but night photography is something I love and I adore how edgy these area. Enjoy.

2015 Mini Session Dates announced!

March 22nd, 2015

SDP has always had a host of popular mini session dates and I’m pleased to announce this year’s dates, locations, and information. SDP has always had a host of popular mini session dates and I’m pleased to announce this year’s dates, locations, and information. Dates and locations are as follows:

May 16th (Saturday) – English Landing Park/Parkville, MO

July 12th (Sunday) – SDP Studio/Liberty (indoor, outdoor, or a combination of both settings available for this date – great for little kiddos!)

October 12th (Sunday) – Stocksdale Park/Liberty, MO

Two types of sessions are available to book on all three of these dates; mini sessions, and the brief micro sessions. The difference is as follows. Mini sessions are 35 minutes long, and the client will be presented a gallery of images from which to select their favorite 20 images, which are then provided in a download gallery, where you can access the files for direct download. You may print and share these files to your heart’s content – a print release is included! You may also purchase additional image files (even them all!) or prints at 25% off the listed pricing within 2 weeks of your gallery posting date. The cost for the mini session is $250.00.

The micro session is a shorter, condensed version of the above at 15 minutes and is perfect for a quick set of portraits or an updated family photo. Clients may select 2 images from their galleries, which are included in the price with a print release and are sent via email or dropbox. You may also purchase additional image files (even them all!) or prints at 25% off the listed pricing within 2 weeks of your gallery posting date. The cost for the micro session is $75.00.

I am accepting bookings for all three dates effective NOW! Pets are welcome (and encouraged!) at all three of these sessions. A nonrefundable deposit is required to reserve your time slot, which is $50.00 for mini sessions and $25.00 for micro sessions and may be paid via credit card over the phone or by mailing a check. All slots are first-come, first served, and if I do not receive your deposit in a timely fashion, you will risk losing your time slot. You may ask, “So Sarah, what happens if my kiddo is sick, or it’s storming?” Never fear, the deposit is transferable to another date within 6 months of your originally scheduled date. If weather affects one of our outdoor session dates, I will get everyone rescheduled as soon as possible.

Ready to book? Great! Email Me to get your date and time secured. Not *quite* convinced yet? Stay tuned for a blog post tomorrow featuring some mini session highlights from the past 6 months!
