Coming up! – and some notes on 2014.

August 31st, 2013

2013 has been a VERY good year so far. And 2014 is going gangbusters in the booking department for weddings. With that being said, it’s time for a periodic “State of the Studio” address and some reminders for 2014 brides. As I announced in the top section of this blog, I am not accepting portrait […]

2013 has been a VERY good year so far. And 2014 is going gangbusters in the booking department for weddings. With that being said, it’s time for a periodic “State of the Studio” address and some reminders for 2014 brides.

As I announced in the top section of this blog, I am not accepting portrait sessions right now outside of regular clients (of which I have several sweet “faithfuls” 🙂 ). This would include seniors, families, and “standalone” engagement sessions not booked with a wedding package. I am instead concentrating efforts on my forte, which is wedding work.

Now, for 2014 weddings. I only have a handful (and I mean *HANDFUL*) of slots left for 2014. Yes, the season is nearly booked. My inquiries have really picked up the past 3 weeks. If you have inquired and are thinking of getting together with me for a consultation, or if you have met with me already, please know that the 2014 books are very, very close to being closed. I would hate for anyone to be left out! Now, what constitutes booking? I want to make sure no one loses their date, first and foremost. I give all couples who meet with me, whether it be in person, via skype or via phone, 72 hours in which their date is held. After this time, if you still haven’t made a decision, that’s fine! But, please understand that your date is open, and at risk of booking. I cannot hold dates without a signed contract and retainer. A verbal “yes, we’d love to book you!” does not constitute a booking. (believe me, as much as I’d love to say it does, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told that over the years and the couple in fact did NOT book for whatever reason.) Your date is considered secured when I have your retainer and signed contract in my hot little hands. At that point, the date is yours and no one else can have it!

Sorry for the boring notes about the booking process, but I do reiterate it a couple of times per year so those that want to book understand the process! I try to make booking your wedding photography simple and no-fuss, but I have to operate in a manner that is fair to all parties. Booking is on a first-come, first-served basis as far as getting that contract and retainer in place. I take a set number of weddings per year, and once I reach that number, I close the books; and as stated earlier, I’m very close to that number for 2014.

Also, just to close out on the process, a reminder that final payment is due 14 days (2 weeks) prior to your wedding date. We’ll set up a final consultation prior to your date to go over the timeline and details, and after that point I create and send your final invoice. Of course, you may pay any amount at any time, and I do get couples who choose to break their balance up into payments over time and this is totally fine!

I am so looking forward to 2014 and so excited that my season is almost completely set in stone! Look for many wonderful weddings to hit the blog this fall as we head into “busy season number two” in September and October, plus a chance to meet some of my great 2014 clients as they begin shooting their engagement sessions. Below is a preview from one such couple, Matt and Alison, who shot their session during last week’s heat! Their blog highlights will be coming your way as well as Samer and Anna’s wedding highlights, both in the next few days.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Bring your spouse, your families, your dog – I have scheduled the first mini session since late last fall for Saturday, July 20th! There will be two locations this day, and you may choose whichever one you’d like – I’ll start at the studio in the afternoon (perfect for some cute indoor shots of your kiddos, with lovely shaded areas outdoors around the building as well, located just off the historic downtown square in Liberty), then move to Parkville, Missouri and English Landing Park for a few evening sessions and some gorgeous late day light (as well as a great playground if you like candids of your kiddos playing).

The cost is $200, and you can select 10 digital files (with print release) when your images are posted after the session. Additionally, you’ll receive a coupon good for 25% off of any print or product orders placed through your gallery!

These sessions will fill fast, especially since weekend dates are EXTREMELY hard to come by in the heart of wedding season. Please email me at sarah@sarahdickersonphoto.com if you are interested in booking!

I have print sales two times per year; over the holidays and this sale, which starts June 1st and runs through June 15! The discount code “SDPSummer” entered at checkout provides a 25% discount on all products that can be ordered through my proofing galleries (please note albums are not included). A bit of a note for this year: I switched to a new proofing system at the start of the year; so, the procedure for accessing your gallery, no matter when your session was shot, is as follows:

1. go to my main website, www.sarahdickersonphoto.com
2. click on “client proofs”, which will take you to my NEW proofing site
3. If your session/wedding was shot in 2013, navigate to your gallery and have fun shopping!
4. If your session/wedding was shot in 2012 or before, click on the “2012 and prior proofs” link to the left of the slideshow on the main page.
This will take you to the old proofing site, and you can navigate to your gallery.

If you need any assistance, please email me . The discount code “SDPSummer” will work in both proofing sites! So….mark your calendars, start making your selections, and get ready to save starting June 1st!

Mick + Caitlin | a New Year’s Eve proposal in Excelsior Springs!

January 1st, 2013

Oooh boy, this is a fun one. As you all are well aware this is PRIME SEASON for fresh proposals (my inbox supports this with the number of wedding photography inquiries I’ve been receiving each day since Christmas!). Oooh boy, this is a fun one. As you all are well aware this is PRIME SEASON for fresh proposals (my inbox supports this with the number of wedding photography inquiries I’ve been receiving each day since Christmas!). New Year’s Eve was no exception! I didn’t have a wedding – having been busy shooting a couple of them on December 28th and 29th – and was instead looking forward to spending the evening with my husband Jim at the dinner theater he operates, the Paradise Playhouse Dinner Theatre in Excelsior Springs (if you haven’t gone – GO! It’s a GREAT time!), where a great party was planned. Enter Mick. He is an actor and has appeared in plays at Paradise (and will be in the upcoming show “Saving Grace” starting January 18th!), and his girlfriend Caitlin has been in a play at the theater as well as working as a server occasionally. Caitlin’s dad Cress is also the Artistic Director at the theater, so lots of ties there! Mick contacted Jim to see how he could work out proposing to Caitlin at the New Year’s Eve party. He wanted to do it on stage, but needed to get Caitlin up there as well without making her suspicious. Jim had the idea, between performers, to go up and thank the staff and actors in attendance and then hand the mic to Mick. And that’s exactly what they did! Here’s the actual proposal in pictures, as well as a couple of shots we snapped in the fresh (and still falling) snow outside of the theater! This is a fun one, guys. Congratulations, Mick and Caitlin!!

My hubby Jim introduces some of the people that make the theater run!

..then hands the mic to Mick, who then thanks Jim for everything at the theater (innocent enough, right?) PS, that’s Caitlin’s dad, Cress, to her right, as well as Paradise Playhouse Operations Director Angela Childers and Helen Price, House Manager.

He then thanks Caitlin and talks about how long they’ve been together…

Happy Thanksgiving! Some sneak peeks and a SALE!

November 21st, 2012

Happy (almost) Thanksgiving! I’m leaving on a jet plane at the crack of dawn tomorrow, headed over the hill and through the woods to (almost) gradmother’s house. Actually my 93 year old great-aunt; my grandmother’s sister. My grandmother passed in 2005 and she and my great-aunt were seriously best of friends their whole lives. Therefore […]

Therefore my great-aunt visited KC often and we visited her in Louisville, Kentucky often. She is a third grandmother to me. I am THANKFUL she has lived such a long and healthy life and THANKFUL to be headed to Kentucky tomorrow for a few days with her and all of my other family that lives in Louisville. Her father died just shy of his 104th birthday; she is so healthy we all think she is aiming to beat him out! 🙂

Before I go to the Bluegrass State, I wanted to give everyone some sneak peeks that have been posted on my Facebook page – these are all sessions that will be blogged after the holiday weekend, all shot in the past week or so. Family sessions, senior sessions, engagement sessions, I still am very busy!

After these sneak peek images is a repeat post of my SALE flyer! The SDP 4th Annual Holiday Sale starts Friday, THIS Friday! Go shopping all you want and get 25% off EVERYTHING in my online galleries Friday through December 7th! All you need to do is enter the code SDPHolidaySale2012 at checkout. Now’s a great time to buy that piece of canvas wall art you always wanted, or to buy prints of your favorite shots for all of your family!

Here are those sneak peek images, followed by the sale flyer! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

It’s almost time to go shopping!

November 10th, 2012

All you shoppers out there, take note! SDP is about to launch our ever-popular Holiday Sale, version 4.0. Those of you who have wanted to order prints but have held off? Now is your time. Those of you who wanted a canvas but were waiting for the sale to get a good deal? You’re good […]

All you shoppers out there, take note! SDP is about to launch our ever-popular Holiday Sale, version 4.0. Those of you who have wanted to order prints but have held off? Now is your time. Those of you who wanted a canvas but were waiting for the sale to get a good deal? You’re good to go. This is a GREAT time to order prints for Christmas gifts, order electronic files for Christmas cards, or order that piece of gorgeous wall art that you have always wanted.

Here’s the scoop. All galleries are eligible (even those events and shoots from 2010 that are still posted!) and everyone who was a 2012 client of SDP will also receive an email notification. Of course, pass the information along to friends or family who may like to shop as well! The sale runs from November 23rd (Black Friday) through December 7th – or two weeks. Everything ordered by sale’s end is guaranteed for Christmas delivery, HOWever, if you are ordering in the last few days of the sale I strongly suggest upgrading to the Priority Mail shipping option.

All items that can be ordered online – prints, canvases, electronic files, gift items – they are ALL 25% off. Just enter the code SDPHolidaySale2012 at checkout starting at midnight on Friday November 23rd (meaning midnight right after Thanksgiving dinner is finished!) and you will be credited with the discount at checkout.

Just a reminder – this is posted at the top of the blog, but I am booked full until after Thanksgiving as far as portrait sessions go – I have limited weekend availability remaining in December, but it is going very quickly so act fast if you want to get in! I’ve got lots of availability coming up in January and February. Winter is a GREAT time to shoot – as a wedding photographer, it’s the best time to schedule me if you need a weekend session slot! I often can’t book weekend portraits during the warm weather months due to my wedding schedule.

Happy Shopping!

Kat and Kevin were one of my favorite couples of 2011 (relive their wedding here!). Their fun personalities really shine through in front of the camera; they are totally into each other (and into joking around) and that makes my job really fun! They met up with me a couple of weeks ago for a session to mark their first anniversary, along with their pooches – and we, as usual, had a blast. Congratulations to you two on your first year as a married couple!
