Jessica and Nat were married last Saturday surrounded by the love of their families – many of whom traveled from afar to be with them. It was one of the most touching wedding days I’ve had the joy of shooting. Actually, they had a rather unorthodox schedule, with their first look and portraiture shot on Friday due to the fact that the ceremony and reception were held in the morning on Saturday. It actually was a great way to do things – relaxed and no rushing! I recently shot Maddie’s one year old portraits on her birthday in and around my studio. My, how time flies – it really doesn’t seem like that long ago that I shot her ” target=”_blank”>newborn portraits, and my how big she is! She was SUCH a cutie and such a good girl for her session! Happy birthday little one!

Carly + Ryan | a River Market Event Place wedding

FINALLY – we have last weekend’s wedding on the blog. Oh goodness, blog readers, it’s been SO crazy around SDP lately. I’ve been shooting my little patootie off – which means less time in the office to edit and blog. That is finally starting to slow now that we’ve got the stragglers from this season’s seniors finished!

On to Carly and Ryan! What a gorgeous wedding day they had last weekend – it felt like summer. I love shooting at the River Market Event Place – so open and airy – and heck I could park under one of their fans ALL NIGHT . Everything went right as planned thanks to the wonderful work of Hannah Klamann of Weddings by Hannah, and Carly and Ryan had SUCH gorgeous details to their green-and-navy wedding that I’m excited to share. These two are presently just getting underway on their extended honeymoon – and I’m so jealous. Hopefully they’ll check in and get a sneak peek at these! Without further adieu, here’s Carly and Ryan!

I started the day with the guys at the Crowne Plaza downtown.

…then headed out to get Carly and the ladies getting ready at the Sheraton and eventually the RMEP.

..soon, guests started arriving including an overabundance of adorable kiddos..

Cathy + Jeremy + Thor in the Crossroads

Up next on the blog are Cathy, Jeremy, and their dog Thor (I still laugh at his name, how adorable!). We met last week to shoot around the Crossroads Art District just south of downtown Kansas City for their engagement session, with a few shots around the Kauffman Performing Arts Center and Liberty Memorial for good measure. Had a lot of fun with this trio – I know they’re excited to see these! (well maybe not Thor.) I’ll shut up and let you take a look at their session – and get back to working on more editing and blogging, including Carly and Ryan’s wedding from last Saturday! Congratulations, Cathy and Jeremy and I hope you have a WONDERFUL Napa Valley wedding later this year! (jealous..)

Kristin + Matt | a Kansas country engagement session

Kristin and Matt are next up in batting order (ha ha, get the baseball reference Matt?) on the blog. I had a lot of fun with these two on our second attempt at their engagement session, rain and soaked ground getting us the first time around. It almost got us the second time around too; it was storming when I awoke for our morning session but alas the weather guessers said it was nice and clear over parts south of downtown. I headed out on a wing and a prayer and although the clouds spread southward, it was dry for our session and honestly, the storms passing off to our north made for some awesome soft light. LOVED it. Did NOT love the tiny snake (which Matt reported as a copperhead. Eck.) we saw on our session, which broke my almost 18-month long streak of sessions/weddings with no snake viewings. Believe me, I keep track. Kristin and Matt, I loved exploring rural Olathe with the two of you and can’t wait for your October wedding! Back to editing I go – there’s lots more to yet step up to the plate from other clients who can’t wait to see their previews!

the Hosey family | springtime session at Loose Park

Starting off the parade of LOTS of blog posts to come this week is a recent family session I did with the Hosey family at Loose Park. What a CUTE family – about to grow by one! We had a fantastic, though a bit steamy at 90 degrees, evening to shoot around the park. Isn’t Berkley just the cutest? Congratulations on your upcoming addition!!

Ashley + Luis | a downtown Kansas City wedding

Suddenly, it’s spring. It seems like yesterday that it was February, deep in the heart of “slow season”, but now I’ve blinked and am in the throes of high wedding season – besides a couple of well-placed vacations , I’m not without a Saturday booked until August! And…besides the long days, I’m loving it. I absolutely love sharing the weddings I shoot, and Ashley and Luis’ wedding day is no exception. Heck, I was excited to share their engagement session – especially for the run through the Crown Center fountains . But Ashley – what an incredibly gorgeous bride she made! WOW. What an incredibly gorgeous COUPLE – to be totally fair to Luis! Severe weather threatened on their wedding day – but by gosh, we got their outdoor shooting in just in the nick of time – with the trip to the roof of Club 1000 occurring as the skies darkened. Within the first few minutes of the reception, it started pouring. Everything fit so perfectly, everything happened so perfectly, and wouldn’t you know, some lucky wedding-day rain at a time when it just didn’t matter anymore.

Emily T and equine friends | Blue Springs senior portraits

I did Emily’s senior session last week on the beautiful grounds of her family’s farm with her three horses. What a gorgeous place to shoot! And what a good looking group of horses to compliment the session! (of course I’m biased, being an arabian owner myself…) One more senior session to go this week, and then the spring senior season here in Kansas City is finished!

Jennifer + Ryan | an elegant Hilton President Kansas City wedding

Jennifer and Ryan had the perfect day for their wedding. Clear, cool but not cold, light breeze – the epitome of spring in Kansas City. Mike Tsai joined me in shooting their gorgeous wedding day – and I am so proud to share these images. Jennifer and Ryan have been so much fun to work with, from their Columbia, Missouri engagement session last spring all of the way through last Saturday. It sounds cliche as an artist to say that I struggle to find my style and the brand for my business – what I am, what I shoot, and what I present to clients. Well, I feel like I can really say that this wedding is a perfect demonstration of all of the above. My style of shooting, what I aim to present to clients, and the emotion I love to capture throughout the day. This day was full of wonderful moments; so much so that Mike and I were constantly shooting them every time we turned around. Which made narrowing images down for this post incredibly difficult and a much longer procedure than usual. Jennifer and Ryan, thank you so much for having us be a part of your wedding day. I hope these images are treasured by you and your families for many years to come – and I hope you all are getting in some wonderful relaxation in Antigua!

Mike and I headed out separately to spend some time with each side of the wedding party prior to Jennifer and Ryan’s first look. It took some text-message coordination to stay out of sight of each other!

Kelly + Michael (and Sarah, too!) | an evening country engagement

The second post to hit the blog today (rolling right along on the editing!) is Kelly and Michael’s engagement session, along with their dog Sarah. (easy for me to remember that name!)
