KC Weddings Bridal Spectacular

Hello all! I’ve emerged from the craziness that is the KC Weddings Bridal Spectacular at the Overland Park Convention Center. Hello all! I’ve emerged from the craziness that is the KC Weddings Bridal Spectacular at the Overland Park Convention Center. This year was no different, with a couple of non-stop days of prep on the front end (including move-in), the show itself, then recovery from the show with a lovely cold yesterday. But the show was a smashing success. The attendance was the largest since I’ve started exhibiting, and I had SO MANY wonderful brides and couples come by.

I’m including a couple of (cell phone, so please excuse the quality – yes the photographer FORGOT TO PACK HER CAMERA) images of my booth, so those who weren’t in attendance can see the setup and those who were there and are stopping by will think “oh, yes, I remember that awesome couch!” :) A BIG THANKS to friend and fellow photographer Kelly Knetter for helping me out at the booth during the show – sometimes the traffic is just too much for me to be able to talk to all of the people lined up to take a look at my work!

A couple of quick notes for those that met with me at the show as well as those who are considering booking: 2012 is nearly full, and I anticipate it will be full in as few as a couple of weeks. There are a handful of remaining dates that have multiple couples interested; just a reminder that your date is not considered booked until I have your signed contract and retainer fee in my hands. Not one or the other, but both :) Then you are golden! Also, since I do have a couple of dates open that proved to be pretty popular at the show, an unfortunate part of this business is that sometimes I have more than one couple that wants to book the same date at literally the same time. I can’t “hold” a date for anyone (see signed contract and retainer requirement) – the absolute ONLY way I can be fair to all parties is to treat booking on a first-come, first-served basis. Honestly, I wish I could book you ALL and if for some reason I do not have your date available, I would be more than willing to help you find a fabulous photographer with a similar style that is still available!

Again, thank you to ALL for stopping by and saying hi. It was fantastic to see some familiar faces, even previous clients, and meet all of the new ones and hear about your wedding stories in-the-making. Here’s to a fabulous 2012 wedding season, and if KC Weddings was any indication, 2013 as well!

A Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art wedding | Carlo + Dora

The streak of wonderful winter weather continued for Carlo and Dora’s wonderful, intimate wedding at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art surrounded by close friends and family. What a wonderful group! For the second week, my wedding party decided to shoot at Liberty Memorial, so I was thankful we didn’t have horrendous winds to deal with due to the elevation of the site. We also hit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art while out and about town. This couple is just SO connected. Which made them so easy to photograph – even though Dora and Carlo live in the eastern US and didn’t get an opportunity to shoot an engagement session to get to know me beforehand. Didn’t matter with these two! Congratulations, Carlo and Dora, and enjoy your long Hawaiian honeymoon!

Cameon + Joe | A picture perfect Hilton President New Year’s Eve wedding

January 4th, 2012

What was there NOT to like about this wedding day? It was well over 60 degrees here in the middle United States on December 31st. What was there NOT to like about this wedding day? It was well over 60 degrees here in the middle United States on December 31st. The wedding was at a gorgeous church – Cathedral of St. Peter in Kansas City, Kansas. The reception was at one of my favorite venues – the Hilton President. There were HORSE PEOPLE at this wedding. Who wanted to go take picture around horse and cattle-related stuff. Always a plus in this lifelong-equestrienne’s book ;) And Mike Tsai was second shooting and as usual did a smack-up job. The only downfall was that the wind was a-howlin’ across the prairie – but, we’ll take that if it’s nearly 65 degrees in late December!

This wraps up my weddings for 2011. 35 of them. It was a crazy-busy (and sometimes downright crazy) year – although I accepted less weddings than in 2010 (a whopping 4 less ;) ), I took on more portrait sessions. Thank you to all of my clients from the bottom of my heart for your business, and for being patient when 24 hours (ok, well maybe not 24, but there were LOTS of 16-18 hour days in there) just weren’t enough to answer all of the emails and phone calls, keep up on editing and album design, and go shoot booked sessions and weddings. We made it though and in fine style!

Cameon and Joe, thanks for having Mike and I capture your wedding day and ring in the New Year with you. Thank you for being so sweet and hospitable and such fun to work with. Congratulations and Cameon, if you eventually start your veterinary practice in this area, well, you just may have a new client. :)

Two hours before Samantha and Daniel’s engagement session it was snowing to beat the band, and the streets were soaked. We’d talked that morning about the weather and had made the difficult decision to press on – but this turned out to be one of those instances that it just worked out! We even had a sunset! :) These two are SO cute together and believe it or not, given the time of year I don’t have much opportunity to shoot engagement sessions during Kansas City’s famous Plaza Lights season – I love shooting at night! With the help of FANTASTIC assistant Kelly Knetter, we got some gorgeous holiday shots of these two at the latter part of the shoot. Congratulations to these two, who are getting married in Pittsburg, KS next June!! And Happy Holidays everyone!

I hope each and every one of you will enjoy my annual year-in-review slideshow. I couldn’t even begin to include all of my favorites – but my most important goal is to include each and every client. THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of my heart for making it possible for me to do what I love; for without all of the wonderful people I get to work with each year, I wouldn’t have a business.

Here’s a taste of the good times, unforgettable memories and incredible images created in 2011. Everyone have a happy, safe holiday weekend and best wishes for a prosperous 2012!

what a COOL DEAL it is, as photographer, to shoot a client’s wedding and then on down the road do a newborn session for their first child. Such was the case with beautiful baby Presley, whom I photographed last week for proud parents Brooke and Mike. I was also excited about this session as it’s one of the first few sessions in my new studio (I do need to post some images of my new space, don’t I?), which is really well suited for newborn and baby sessions. Congratulations, Brooke and Mike, on your beautiful little girl and that awesome head of hair she has! :)
