Coming up! – and some notes on 2014.

2013 has been a VERY good year so far. And 2014 is going gangbusters in the booking department for weddings. With that being said, it’s time for a periodic “State of the Studio” address and some reminders for 2014 brides.

As I announced in the top section of this blog, I am not accepting portrait sessions right now outside of regular clients (of which I have several sweet “faithfuls” 🙂 ). This would include seniors, families, and “standalone” engagement sessions not booked with a wedding package. I am instead concentrating efforts on my forte, which is wedding work.

Now, for 2014 weddings. I only have a handful (and I mean *HANDFUL*) of slots left for 2014. Yes, the season is nearly booked. My inquiries have really picked up the past 3 weeks. If you have inquired and are thinking of getting together with me for a consultation, or if you have met with me already, please know that the 2014 books are very, very close to being closed. I would hate for anyone to be left out! Now, what constitutes booking? I want to make sure no one loses their date, first and foremost. I give all couples who meet with me, whether it be in person, via skype or via phone, 72 hours in which their date is held. After this time, if you still haven’t made a decision, that’s fine! But, please understand that your date is open, and at risk of booking. I cannot hold dates without a signed contract and retainer. A verbal “yes, we’d love to book you!” does not constitute a booking. (believe me, as much as I’d love to say it does, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told that over the years and the couple in fact did NOT book for whatever reason.) Your date is considered secured when I have your retainer and signed contract in my hot little hands. At that point, the date is yours and no one else can have it!

Sorry for the boring notes about the booking process, but I do reiterate it a couple of times per year so those that want to book understand the process! I try to make booking your wedding photography simple and no-fuss, but I have to operate in a manner that is fair to all parties. Booking is on a first-come, first-served basis as far as getting that contract and retainer in place. I take a set number of weddings per year, and once I reach that number, I close the books; and as stated earlier, I’m very close to that number for 2014.

Also, just to close out on the process, a reminder that final payment is due 14 days (2 weeks) prior to your wedding date. We’ll set up a final consultation prior to your date to go over the timeline and details, and after that point I create and send your final invoice. Of course, you may pay any amount at any time, and I do get couples who choose to break their balance up into payments over time and this is totally fine!

I am so looking forward to 2014 and so excited that my season is almost completely set in stone! Look for many wonderful weddings to hit the blog this fall as we head into “busy season number two” in September and October, plus a chance to meet some of my great 2014 clients as they begin shooting their engagement sessions. Below is a preview from one such couple, Matt and Alison, who shot their session during last week’s heat! Their blog highlights will be coming your way as well as Samer and Anna’s wedding highlights, both in the next few days.

Have a great holiday weekend!
