Ashley and Scott finish up a long busy string of fall engagement sessions for SDP. We shot on a chilly evening last week – and STILL had fall color to work with (note to 2013 clients – you can go pretty late and still get fall color!). After shooting around Loose Park, we headed to the Plaza and finished up with some fun dusk/night shots – one of my favorite parts of shooting this time of year is getting more of a chance to use lighting!

Cameon + Joe’s engagement session | fall leaves and SMILESNovember 21st, 2011Isn’t Cameon’s smile just infectious? She and Joe met me on a gorgeous, golden morning and we got some really nice fall colors despite the mid November date. These are my type of folk – HORSE folk! Cameon is a equine veterinary resident and accomplished rider, in fact. We shot around Loose Park and the [...] |

Cameon is a equine veterinary resident and accomplished rider, in fact. We shot around Loose Park and the Plaza for their engagement session, and had lots of fun. You’ll see these two again pretty darn soon on the blog – I’m really looking forward to their New Year’s Eve wedding!

Erin + Shawn | an “almost married!” Country Club Plaza and Loose Park engagement sessionJune 7th, 2011Erin and Shawn get married in two and a half WEEKS. Yes, you heard that right! Two and a half weeks! We had some weather issues with their engagement session, and finally had to go ahead yesterday, what with nearly 100 degree temps and all. Erin and Shawn get married in two and a half WEEKS. Yes, you heard that right! Two and a half weeks! We had some weather issues with their engagement session, and finally had to go ahead yesterday, what with nearly 100 degree temps and all. These two were not only troopers, but they are frickin’ ADORABLE. I cannot wait to shoot their wedding at the end of this month! Most guys would be OVER a session with that kind of heat, but Shawn stuck in there and was fantastic! We made sure to take advantage of water, towels, and Starbucks’ air conditioning (plus a quick stop at White House | Black Market for Erin to get some flip flops for walkin’ – I mean, look at those heels she has on!) The Plaza was a veritable blast furnace – but Loose Park with its grass and lack of pavement was significantly cooler for us to finish the session. Hey, at least the light was gorgeous!! See you all in just a couple short weeks!!
Erin and Shawn exchanged numbers at the Granfalloon.
The rest is history!

Kelsey seriously has the MOST infectious smile and laugh I’ve ever seen. I mean, look at her! She is SO adorable. And SO obviously enjoying every minute of her engagement session with Dean – which we shot last Friday morning at Shawnee Mission Park followed by a brief round at the Plaza – including the walk along Brush Creek, where she and Dean were engaged. As you can also see, light is QUITE gorgeous in the morning, so ladies and gents, keep morning sessions as an option as things heat up this summer (it’s usually much cooler than evening)! In Kelsey and Dean’s case, we switched to a morning session to avoid forecast 40mph wind gusts that afternoon. (and boy was the forecast right – but we had gorgeous light breeze for the morning!) Guys, I’m excited to travel to Hutchinson to shoot your wedding this summer!
Molly joined in for a few shots!

me love light. me LOVE LIGHT!
I have other versions of this shot – but the wink…HAD to blog it. LOVE it!

I met Glori and Toby at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art late one afternoon about a week and a half ago; before the snow hit, before the bottom fell out on the temperatures. It was actually a mild afternoon! The light was glorious on the lawn at the Nelson; even more, these two were so into each other and the session. Light, laughter, love, what more could a portrait photographer want? We then headed to the Plaza branch of the Kansas City Public Library; Glori had said we could leave the stop out if we ran short on time (they really wanted to finish with a shot with the lights on the Plaza) – I’m glad we didn’t as these two are admitted bookworms and the setting was SO fun. I love working couples’ interests into their sessions – and although I was a bit worried about shooting in the library, the security guard smiled and winked at us as she walked by.
