Ashley + Scott | Loose Park and Country Club Plaza engagement session

November 21st, 2011

Ashley and Scott finish up a long busy string of fall engagement sessions for SDP. We shot on a chilly evening last week – and STILL had fall color to work with (note to 2013 clients – you can go pretty late and still get fall color!). After shooting around Loose Park, we headed to the Plaza and finished up with some fun dusk/night shots – one of my favorite parts of shooting this time of year is getting more of a chance to use lighting!

Cameon + Joe’s engagement session | fall leaves and SMILES

November 21st, 2011

Isn’t Cameon’s smile just infectious? She and Joe met me on a gorgeous, golden morning and we got some really nice fall colors despite the mid November date. These are my type of folk – HORSE folk! 🙂 Cameon is a equine veterinary resident and accomplished rider, in fact. We shot around Loose Park and […]

We shot around Loose Park and the Plaza for their engagement session, and had lots of fun. You’ll see these two again pretty darn soon on the blog – I’m really looking forward to their New Year’s Eve wedding!

Lindsey + Brett | Plaza and Downtown Kansas City engagement session

October 17th, 2011

Lindsey and Brett are next up on the ol’ blog! Another session with gorgeous weather. It’s always funny when you find out you “know” a client – turns out Brett’s dad is a pretty big fixture at the downtown airport and I totally know who he is, through flying. I even taught one of my […]

It’s always funny when you find out you “know” a client – turns out Brett’s dad is a pretty big fixture at the downtown airport and I totally know who he is, through flying. I even taught one of my flight students out of his business a few years ago. Such a small world. You’ll see these two right here again next June when they are married! 🙂

Laura + Ryan | Country Club Plaza and Loose Park engagement session

September 19th, 2011

Laura and Ryan won my engagement session contest at the KC Weddings Bridal Show – which was actually so ironic as they had already met with me regarding photographing their wedding! (KC Weddings handles the contest and drawing – so it was by COMPLETE chance that they won!) We tried to do their session back in July, but faced with a day over 100 degrees, Laura decided to wait for cooler weather. While it was still fairly toasty last Monday, it was a definite change over 100+ degree temperatures. What a fun couple! I love Laura’s smile – and the two are so happy together. Makes me definitely look forward to shooting their wedding next June – on my own wedding anniversary 🙂 Thanks to Kelly Knetter for assisting me on this session!

Lauren + Will | Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Country Club Plaza engagement

July 20th, 2011

Lauren and Will got the one “cool” day last week for their session (but not before rescheduling from a 100 degree day). 85 was the high last Wednesday, which admittedly seems COOL. Lauren and Will got the one “cool” day last week for their session (but not before rescheduling from a 100 degree day). 85 was the high last Wednesday, which admittedly seems COOL. The humidity was still quite high though – and we ended up nice and sweaty, despite temps almost 15 degrees less than what seems to be the average lately. Sure enough, my shoot schedule has been pretty wide open this month – the shoots I have had scheduled have almost all pushed back into August hoping for cooler weather. Midsummer here can almost seem like winter – but it’s the calm before the storm as fall is already starting to schedule in! Lauren and Will have got that natural connection – the one I love, as photographer, to shoot – as they required little to no directing. I found they started “ad libbing” pretty early on in the session – I LOVE couples who are this comfortable in front of the camera as it not only makes my job easy, but the shots look natural and authentic. These two are fairly recent transplants to Kansas City, and are planning a New Year’s Eve wedding in Columbia. Congrats and best wishes you two!

Erin + Shawn | an “almost married!” Country Club Plaza and Loose Park engagement session

June 7th, 2011

Erin and Shawn get married in two and a half WEEKS. Yes, you heard that right! Two and a half weeks! Erin and Shawn get married in two and a half WEEKS. Yes, you heard that right! Two and a half weeks! We had some weather issues with their engagement session, and finally had to go ahead yesterday, what with nearly 100 degree temps and all. These two were not only troopers, but they are frickin’ ADORABLE. I cannot wait to shoot their wedding at the end of this month! Most guys would be OVER a session with that kind of heat, but Shawn stuck in there and was fantastic! We made sure to take advantage of water, towels, and Starbucks’ air conditioning (plus a quick stop at White House | Black Market for Erin to get some flip flops for walkin’ – I mean, look at those heels she has on!) The Plaza was a veritable blast furnace – but Loose Park with its grass and lack of pavement was significantly cooler for us to finish the session. Hey, at least the light was gorgeous!! See you all in just a couple short weeks!! 🙂

Erin and Shawn exchanged numbers at the Granfalloon. 🙂 The rest is history!

Parul + Pete | Loose Park and Plaza Kansas City engagement

Parul and Pete are IN LOVE. They are the easiest pair to photograph – they are so into each other that I find myself just silently shooting. I seriously had to do so little directing during their engagement session – I found I was saying very little and apologizing for that – they were just perfect! We shot around Parul’s home  – which is the Plaza (or WAS the Plaza, she just moved to St. Louis last weekend!), and Loose Park RIGHT as the sweet light started hitting. I think it can be said this session had the most yummy light yet this year. Yummy light and an incredibly connected couple – what more could a photographer ask for? You’ll see their Union Station wedding on the blog almost exactly a year from now! 🙂
