Danielle + Brad | a country engagement session

I’ve known Danielle for years through the arabian horse show circuit so I was thrilled and honored when she and Brad hired SDP to shoot their wedding next summer! […]

Maggie + Trevor engagement (and Maddie and Katie!)

October 9th, 2012

Maggie and Trevor recently joined me for their engagement session around the countryside in the Liberty area, and brought kiddos Maddie and Katie along for a few family photos as well. This marks the first in a string of engagement sessions for 2013 brides you’ll be seeing on the blog – ’tis the season!

Annabelle + Nick | a country sunset engagement session

June 12th, 2012

It’s June. And things are INSANE. Outside of my shooting, I’m working solid days from the time I get up to the time I go to bed (I’ll get my break later in July) 😉 I’ve got a ton hitting the blog this week and a ton to edit for clients (and some albums, too) […]

Outside of my shooting, I’m working solid days from the time I get up to the time I go to bed (I’ll get my break later in July) 😉 I’ve got a ton hitting the blog this week and a ton to edit for clients (and some albums, too) – so I’ll likely be leaving the photos to do most of the talking on these upcoming posts! 😉 Annabelle and Nick met me at various rural locations around Liberty Missouri – and we soaked up some late day sun. This light is GORGEOUS! (not to mention the couple!) You will see these two making an appearance on the blog again – this time as a happily married couple – in almost exactly a year! 🙂

Kristin + Matt | a Kansas country engagement session

Kristin and Matt are next up in batting order (ha ha, get the baseball reference Matt?) on the blog. I had a lot of fun with these two on our second attempt at their engagement session, rain and soaked ground getting us the first time around. It almost got us the second time around too; it was storming when I awoke for our morning session but alas the weather guessers said it was nice and clear over parts south of downtown. I headed out on a wing and a prayer and although the clouds spread southward, it was dry for our session and honestly, the storms passing off to our north made for some awesome soft light. LOVED it. Did NOT love the tiny snake (which Matt reported as a copperhead. Eck.) we saw on our session, which broke my almost 18-month long streak of sessions/weddings with no snake viewings. Believe me, I keep track. Kristin and Matt, I loved exploring rural Olathe with the two of you and can’t wait for your October wedding! Back to editing I go – there’s lots more to yet step up to the plate from other clients who can’t wait to see their previews!

Kelly + Michael (and Sarah, too!) | an evening country engagement

April 24th, 2012

The second post to hit the blog today (rolling right along on the editing!) is Kelly and Michael’s engagement session, along with their dog Sarah. (easy for me to remember that name!) What a sweet couple these two are. I very much look forward to shooting their Deer Creek Country Club wedding later this summer! […]

Stephanie + Brady | A Topeka Kansas country engagement session

October 25th, 2011

Stephanie and Brady were a TON of fun to shoot. Which was good, because it was about 50 degrees with a 30mph wind during their session 😉 Stephanie definitely was brave shooting in her dress…luckily we were able to seek shelter from the wind inside the barn for a bit, which was uber cool anyways. You’ll see these two on a hopefully warmer day next April when they get married! Many thanks to the Old Stone House Bed and Breakfast in Tecumseh, Kansas, who was SUPER kind to let us use their property for this session.

Allison and Nathan head up the LENGTHY list of blog posts to hit this week – 4 portrait sessions and 2 weddings, plus one big studio announcement, to be exact! I photographed Allison, Nathan, their horse Epic, and dog Lily on a gorgeous late afternoon last Monday. We shot around the farm where Allison boards Epic, played with Lily a bit, then headed to Heritage Park to finish up the session in some gorgeous golden light. For those of you who know that I have a background photographing horses (and that I grew up with them!), you can imagine that I was really excited for this session. This couple was a ton of fun to work with, as well, so I’m equally excited about their wedding next year! I’m also excited that I know can identify the common roadside flowering plant, the Sidaroda. (Ha, Allison! 🙂 )

Shayna and Adam came for their session on one of last week’s hottest evenings – but were determined to get their session in. Honestly, although the wheat field was a wee bit toasty, the rest of the session, done on a friend’s private farm, wasn’t TOO horribly bad! We had some gorgeous light to work with and I LOVE country-type sessions. A lot. In fact, if you follow my facebook page, you saw my plea for ANYONE to choose the wheat field behind my home for their session – these two were the only takers. You can see how great the shots turned out – and how fortunate they were, as the wheat was cut the very next day! You’ll see these two on the blog under VERY different conditions when I shoot their wedding in January! 🙂
