Kelly + Jordan | Sunset at Shawnee Mission engagement

I was super excited to get out and shoot Kelly and Jordan’s engagement session last week. Let’s face it, there isn’t as much opportunity to photograph during the winter months – and the weather has been so gorgeous. I’m very thankful for the weather that has allowed a bit busier of a winter schedule than usual! Me? I LOVE shooting during the winter. The light is just…different (in a very good way). I love the golden and beige hues of the landscape. I don’t mind that the trees are bare at all. Jordan and Kelly’s session at Shawnee Mission Park was no exception to the wonderful opportunities that winter presents – Kelly lives in the eastern US and was only in town for a few days – so we had a narrow window in which to shoot their engagement session. It worked out in a wonderful way with a near 60 degree day and a gorgeous winter sunset. I really enjoyed working with these two and they were so easy to photograph. They truly had a lot of fun and I love it when a session not only serves to document an important time in life but is an enjoyable experience in the process!

Samantha + Daniel | a Plaza Lights engagement session

Two hours before Samantha and Daniel’s engagement session it was snowing to beat the band, and the streets were soaked. We’d talked that morning about the weather and had made the difficult decision to press on – but this turned out to be one of those instances that it just worked out! We even had a sunset! These two are SO cute together and believe it or not, given the time of year I don’t have much opportunity to shoot engagement sessions during Kansas City’s famous Plaza Lights season – I love shooting at night! With the help of FANTASTIC assistant Kelly Knetter, we got some gorgeous holiday shots of these two at the latter part of the shoot. Congratulations to these two, who are getting married in Pittsburg, KS next June!! And Happy Holidays everyone!

Jessica + Kurt | sunset at Liberty Memorial

Jessica and Kurt met me at Liberty Memorial on a brisk early winter evening for an engagement mini session, determined to get some killer skyline shots to impress the folks back home in Western Kansas but also some cute holiday card images. What troupers these two were because yes, IT WAS COLD! (and it is ALWAYS breezy up on the hill at Liberty Memorial!) Here’s some of the gorgeous images from their session, scheduled in the hour right up to the incredibly golden sunset that evening (look at those buildings glow!) Congratulations on your engagement you two and happy holidays!

Coming up on the blog? Tomorrow is Wedding Wednesday with CJ and Jerad’s Topeka wedding from last Saturday, and I’ll also be profiling some awesome area wedding vendors over the holidays to help all of you newly-engaged couples with your wedding planning. Ashley + Scott | Loose Park and Country Club Plaza engagement session

Ashley and Scott finish up a long busy string of fall engagement sessions for SDP. We shot on a chilly evening last week – and STILL had fall color to work with (note to 2013 clients – you can go pretty late and still get fall color!). After shooting around Loose Park, we headed to the Plaza and finished up with some fun dusk/night shots – one of my favorite parts of shooting this time of year is getting more of a chance to use lighting!

Isn’t Cameon’s smile just infectious? She and Joe met me on a gorgeous, golden morning and we got some really nice fall colors despite the mid November date. These are my type of folk – HORSE folk! Cameon is a equine veterinary resident and accomplished rider, in fact. We shot around Loose Park and the Plaza for their engagement session, and had lots of fun. You’ll see these two again pretty darn soon on the blog – I’m really looking forward to their New Year’s Eve wedding!

Lisa + Cory | an urban Kansas City engagement session

Lisa and Cory continue the streak of engagement sessions I shot last week (all for 2012 wedding clients!). They had a gorgeous, sunny day for their Crossroads and West Bottoms session – with a quick skyline shot at dusk thrown in for good measure. Can’t wait to work with this super sweet couple on their wedding day next spring!

Tiffany + Roy | A totally unique way cool donut shop and movie theater engagement

Ok, you gotta admit that doing engagement photos in a donut shop is a cool opportunity. You gotta admit that doing engagement photos in a movie theater is a cool opportunity. You REALLY gotta admit that doing engagement photos in BOTH places in the same session is truly awesome! I met Tiffany and Roy on a blustery morning last week to shoot their engagement session in a park, in one of Roy’s donut shops (he owns several around the Olathe area!), and in the movie theater – both Roy and Tiffany are admittedly huge movie buffs so it was only appropriate! Don’t ask me how Tiffany pulled some strings to get us in – but she did, and they turned out SO FUN! Check these two out. You’ll see them again come February when they are married!

Lindsey + Brett | Plaza and Downtown Kansas City engagement session

Lindsey and Brett are next up on the ol’ blog! Another session with gorgeous weather. It’s always funny when you find out you “know” a client – turns out Brett’s dad is a pretty big fixture at the downtown airport and I totally know who he is, through flying. I even taught one of my flight students out of his business a few years ago. Such a small world. You’ll see these two right here again next June when they are married!

Laura + Ryan | Country Club Plaza and Loose Park engagement session

Laura and Ryan won my engagement session contest at the KC Weddings Bridal Show – which was actually so ironic as they had already met with me regarding photographing their wedding! (KC Weddings handles the contest and drawing – so it was by COMPLETE chance that they won!) We tried to do their session back in July, but faced with a day over 100 degrees, Laura decided to wait for cooler weather. While it was still fairly toasty last Monday, it was a definite change over 100+ degree temperatures. What a fun couple! I love Laura’s smile – and the two are so happy together. Makes me definitely look forward to shooting their wedding next June – on my own wedding anniversary Thanks to Kelly Knetter for assisting me on this session!

Sara + Rick | Liberty Memorial and Crossroads District engagement
