I was super excited to get out and shoot Kelly and Jordan’s engagement session last week. Let’s face it, there isn’t as much opportunity to photograph during the winter months – and the weather has been so gorgeous. I’m very thankful for the weather that has allowed a bit busier of a winter schedule than usual! Me? I LOVE shooting during the winter. The light is just…different (in a very good way). I love the golden and beige hues of the landscape. I don’t mind that the trees are bare at all. Jordan and Kelly’s session at Shawnee Mission Park was no exception to the wonderful opportunities that winter presents – Kelly lives in the eastern US and was only in town for a few days – so we had a narrow window in which to shoot their engagement session. It worked out in a wonderful way with a near 60 degree day and a gorgeous winter sunset. I really enjoyed working with these two and they were so easy to photograph. They truly had a lot of fun and I love it when a session not only serves to document an important time in life but is an enjoyable experience in the process!

Cameon + Joe’s engagement session | fall leaves and SMILESNovember 21st, 2011Isn’t Cameon’s smile just infectious? She and Joe met me on a gorgeous, golden morning and we got some really nice fall colors despite the mid November date. These are my type of folk – HORSE folk! Cameon is a equine veterinary resident and accomplished rider, in fact. We shot around Loose Park and the [...] |

Cameon is a equine veterinary resident and accomplished rider, in fact. We shot around Loose Park and the Plaza for their engagement session, and had lots of fun. You’ll see these two again pretty darn soon on the blog – I’m really looking forward to their New Year’s Eve wedding!

Shayna + Adam | a countryside engagement sessionJuly 6th, 2011Shayna and Adam came for their session on one of last week’s hottest evenings – but were determined to get their session in. Honestly, although the wheat field was a wee bit toasty, the rest of the session, done on a friend’s private farm, wasn’t TOO horribly bad! We had some gorgeous light to work with and I LOVE country-type sessions. A lot. In fact, if you follow my facebook page, you saw my plea for ANYONE to choose the wheat field behind my home for their session – these two were the only takers. You can see how great the shots turned out – and how fortunate they were, as the wheat was cut the very next day! You’ll see these two on the blog under VERY different conditions when I shoot their wedding in January!

I was pretty confident I’d be photographing Ashley and Luis’ engagement session at Kauffman Stadium when they first booked me. After all, they’d already looked into how to do such a thing when they first met with me! We had a gorgeous day for their session last Thursday, and spent half of their session at the stadium and the other half wandering around the Crown Center area. Which was fun in and of itself. These two are game – I mean, how many couples can you convince to take their shoes off and go piggyback through a FOUNTAIN?
(I think the shot was worth it…)

Wind seemed to follow Kristen and Brendan wherever they went. It’s no secret the weather this spring has been VERY volatile; I’m super nervous about next week as I have FIVE engagement sessions to shoot and know the weather’s not been able to string together more than two good days for weeks. Kristen and Brendan’s first go at their engagement session turned out to be a super warm day; however, the winds were gusting to 40mph which makes it hard to walk at times let alone not look like a tornado is bearing down on you. Our reschedule turned out to be fairly breezy as well; although not THAT breezy it was quite cool! Luckily the sun broke out partway through their session and it ended up being quite pleasant for about the last hour. Kristen had expressed to me a love for textures (old wood, old bricks, worn paint) and a vintage vibe, so I suggested the West Bottoms as a location that would fit that bill. Here’s what we came up with during our two hours of exploring alleys and old building fronts! These two will be back on the blog in October, when they’ll be happily married

Erin + Scott: engaged | country session, Kansas CityNovember 4th, 2010I was so psyched when Erin liked my suggestion of shooting in the fields surrounding my subdivision. Amy and Travis JUST are in the process of moving to Kansas City – Amy is still in grad school in Kentucky and Travis is new to town, having been located here for his job. They both hail from Louisville, Kentucky, home to a lot of MY family! They are SO new to town, they’d not even been to the Plaza yet – so our shooting around Loose Park and the Plaza was all completely foreign to them.
We started the shoot RIGHT at sunset, so got some gorgeous light plus even a bit of nighttime shooting on the Plaza itself. Enjoy!
