Laura + Travis (and Max!): couples session | Ironwoods Park

September 30th, 2010

Laura and Travis’ couples session at Ironwoods Park in Leawood, Kansas was the first session I’ve done that just felt like fall. Laura and Travis’ couples session at Ironwoods Park in Leawood, Kansas was the first session I’ve done that just felt like fall. Cool, crisp, woodsy and a bit of a gray day (although we got some sunshine for the shoot in the latter half). The type of morning that says “coffee”. The type of morning where you expect to smell a faraway smell of burning wood. I love summer, but after the summer we’ve had this type of weather is really refreshing! Laura contacted me to do a session for her and her husband Travis after Travis was a groomsman in Becky and Adam’s wedding last July, which I shot. They wanted to shoot around Ironwoods Park for nostalgic reasons – it is home to the Lodge at Ironwoods – where they had their own wedding reception. Then we shot around their backyard a bit with their adorable (and high energy!) Boston Terrier, Max.

Kendra V: kansas city portrait photography

I met Kendra, her mom Jessica, and her little sis Dakota at Watkin’s Mill State Park yesterday afternoon to do a portrait session in preparation for a couple of pageants she has coming up this spring. What a glorious place to shoot in the springtime! I wanted to stay past our session and just soak in the fresh air. Thanks Kendra for wandering off the beaten path in your sandals – at least your photographer was equally unprepared to go schlepping through the brush! 🙂

Up next is Michael’s senior session, which will probably hit the blog tomorrow AM!

Erin and Mike: Kansas City Engagement Session

Erin and Mike drove up all the way from Emporia, Kansas Thursday evening for their engagement session. That’s not all – they actually were in Emporia for the week from Mississippi! Lucky they were; as I sit here blogging this session we have 3 inches of snow on the ground, and our good friend Gary Lezak said we are expecting 4-8 inches of additional snow before the day’s over (should make for an interesting wedding reception I am shooting this evening!). But no, it was in the mid 60s and the sun made a rare, rare appearance for their session – the only glitch was that their photographer was a bit under the weather, but as I do….I deal. 🙂 Actually, you could set a bomb off behind me when I am shooting – so I tend to ignore the fact I’m a bit miserable until I’m sitting in my car after the session.

I’ll be shooting Erin and Mike’s wedding this August in Emporia at a couple of GORGEOUS, historic venues – so you’ll be seeing a lot more from this couple right here!

Neyam and Shakti: couples session

Neyam called a couple of weeks ago and scheduled a Valentine’s day couples session with her husband, Shakti. The forecast started looking not-so-hot a few days before the session – but they were game to continue so we didn’t reschedule. Perhaps we were just HARD HEADED but we were out shooting in winds up to 30mph, creating wind chills in the single digits. The wind would cut right through your jeans – I don’t think I felt the fronts of my thighs again until bedtime that night! And…they got caught in traffic – bad traffic – as snow squalls caused temporary whiteout conditions in part of the city leading to huge pileup accidents that made national news – two in Kansas City alone had 40 cars plus involved. So, most importantly, everyone stayed safe. And, we got some gorgeous snow right at the end of the shoot, which of course made my trip home a bit dicey, but the results were worth it. THANKS AGAIN to Lori Fetterling for assisting with lighting – especially in the conditions we faced! And thanks to Neyam and Shakti for sticking it out. I’m getting sick of saying that to ALL of my couples this winter, but it has been one. horrible. winter.

Enjoy!
