Lindsie S: senior session | Country Club Plaza and Loose Park

October 27th, 2010

I met super-sweet Lindsie and her mom one morning last week for her senior session. Although I don’t have time to take a lot of senior sessions on due to my wedding work, I truly enjoy doing them!

Alex C: senior portrait session | Kansas City River Market

September 30th, 2010

Alex and her mom wanted sun for her senior shoot (understandably!) but a stroke (or several) of bad luck led to several weather reschedules before we FINALLY got a sunny day! Gorgeous temps to boot. The blog highlights don’t even show but a fraction of the session – we had a lot of fun! Isn’t […]

Dexter C: senior session | Crossroads Art District

Winding down this whirlwind week of blogging shoots and weddings (yep, I’ve been a BIT busy…) is Dexter’s senior session, shot Tuesday night in the Crossroads Art District. Dexter is a senior at Olathe Northwest where he plays basketball and baseball – and is awaiting scholarship offers to continue his athletic career in college. All I’m gonna say about this shoot is….what a photogenic kid! (and yes I feel very old referring to a high school senior as a kid – but I’ve come to the realization that I was in college when this year’s class was BORN….) Probably one of the funniest moments in a shoot in recent history occurred when I had Dexter give me a serious face then asked him to smile – the transition from serious to smile involved a little chin-up nod. A-freaking-dorable. 🙂

Zack S: senior portraits | Kansas City west bottoms

Zack was a lot of fun to shoot – he likes comedy and does improv and as you’ll see we worked that into his shoot – but it popped up in a lot of other places too. 🙂 Especially when we were shooting around the West Bottoms warehouses and walked down an alley and came upon another photo shoot – not uncommon in the bottoms as it’s used for a LOT of shoots – but, ahem, let’s just say it was a couples shoot and the couple was half naked! We both turned and hightailed it for someplace else but after I got over the horror of corrupting a high school senior, we had some good laughs.

Here’s the rest of the story!

We found a great way to work a comedy theme into part of the shoot.

Brittany B: senior photos | Country Club Plaza

August 4th, 2010

Brittany and her family EASILY win the award for furthest distance traveled for a senior photo shoot with me: McCook, Nebraska. Which is SouthWESTERN Nebraska, I am told a mere 100 miles from the Colorado border. Color me absolutely flattered that they chose me to do Brittany’s senior photos! Which is SouthWESTERN Nebraska, I am told a mere 100 miles from the Colorado border. Color me absolutely flattered that they chose me to do Brittany’s senior photos! We shot on Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza early Monday morning – but it was still HOT. And we walked a LOT – Brittany’s mom’s pedometer was at a mile and a half about halfway through the shoot! One thing is for sure, I think Brittany will have something a bit different as far as a backdrop than her classmates will! 😉

Brittany’s mom warned me that she loved to be barefoot!

Michael’s senior shoot yesterday had two very distinct parts, as you’ll see in the images below – it could have been two entirely different shoots! We started at the Airline History Museum, as Michael is soon-to-be an aerospace engineering student at Wichita State and really wanted to involve airplanes in part of his shoot. Being an active member (and board member!) at the AHM, I knew that was the perfect spot to get some really dramatic shots. We shot with the hangar closed up to give the photos a very dark, vintage, of-the-era feel. Of course I’m a pilot and airplane geek myself so I could go on and on about that part of the shoot, but we’ll instead stick to pictures. But I’ll still add a shameless plug for the museum as it’s a great place to go see that is about to, over time, become much better – and they are always looking for volunteers and new members! Go to www.ahmhangar.com for more information and Gwyn, thanks for your help in coordinating the after-hours shoot!

We then went on to the riverfront park in Parkville, Missouri to do some nice shots in a natural setting. We were both scared of running into a snake near the creek, but we survived sans snake sightings. 🙂

This shot isn’t done justice until it’s viewed SUPER big. The black and white version is quite stunning, too.
