Kelly was originally scheduled for her senior portraits the week before we shot them – and we postponed, as it had been raining, and was cloudy and dreary. She really liked the sun in a lot of my work, so we pushed the session back a week to this Monday which dawned…cloudy, stormy and dreary. Luckily, it cleared out and we had a great evening for her session! Isn’t she a gorgeous girl? We shot this session around Parkville, Missouri – and although there is flooding all around the city, as you can see there are plenty of GREAT areas to shoot that are just fine!

Jocie J: senior portraits | Briarcliff Village, Kansas City

Jocie and her boyfriend, Matt, came up to my studio to do her senior session last Friday afternoon. It was a gorgeous day to shoot and I love shooting in the little park across from my studio. Jocie is a senior at Shawnee Mission South, and will be attending Pitt State next year along with Matt, who is a freshman there. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation, Jocie, you were a lot of fun to work with!

Matt joined in on a few photos at the start of the session – aren’t these two adorable?

Kaylee and her mom met me at the studio last week to embark on her senior photos – the days had shortened to the point that we had to rush to get to Loose Park and have enough daylight left. I’m glad we did – Kaylee’s ballerina shots are among my favorite senior shots ever, I believe. Isn’t she such a pretty girl?

Parkville is such a great little place to shoot – within walking distance there’s a VERY large park, and the quaint town itself. Plus the gorgeous Park University campus, which I’ve yet to wander onto for a shoot (but watch out! ) Katie, her mom and I spent our Sunday morning exploring the town for great places to document her senior year of high school. I think we got some super cute stuff! Katie, best of luck your senior year and as you embark on pharmacology studies in your college years!

Molly M: senior portrait session | Liberty, Missouri

My sister lives on the square in Liberty (in a loft); it’s funny that I’m there a fair bit but have never shot around the square. Well, I have now! Molly and I explored the historic area, then headed out to Stocksdale Park to finish the shoot. We had a great day (albeit a bit warm – I was shocked to get home and find out the high temp was 99 degrees, enough already!) and great light, and as are ALL my seniors, Molly is drop dead gorgeoussssss!

Kayla’s senior portrait session was rescheduled from the super hot weather we had a couple of weeks ago to a much more tolerable 82 degrees last Thursday on the Country Club Plaza. We walked all. OVER. the Plaza and I found a couple of cool new “nooks” I’d not seen before – as well as hitting some of the usual suspects (EVERYone loves those blue tile stairs ). One thing’s for sure – Kayla is drop dead GORGEOUS in these shots!

Brette B: Kansas City senior photography

I met Brette, her mother, and their black lab Piper on the Plaza late yesterday afternoon to do her senior session. I was a bit concerned about the weather but we got it in – it didn’t start pouring until I hit downtown on the drive home! Brette, best of luck at K-State next fall!

We at least had the sun BRIEFLY!

Julia D: Kansas City senior photographers

Julia and I met yesterday to do her senior session. She’s actually already done with school, having finished at semester (smart girl…lucky girl!). I’ve shot the River Market quite a bit lately, so the goal was coming up with some different stuff! I think we succeeded.

I love it when the breeze blows hair just so…

At times, Julia looks a wee bit like Jessica Simpson. Y’think?

Michael L: Kansas City senior photography

Michael’s senior shoot yesterday had two very distinct parts, as you’ll see in the images below – it could have been two entirely different shoots! We started at the Airline History Museum, as Michael is soon-to-be an aerospace engineering student at Wichita State and really wanted to involve airplanes in part of his shoot. Being an active member (and board member!) at the AHM, I knew that was the perfect spot to get some really dramatic shots. We shot with the hangar closed up to give the photos a very dark, vintage, of-the-era feel. Of course I’m a pilot and airplane geek myself so I could go on and on about that part of the shoot, but we’ll instead stick to pictures. But I’ll still add a shameless plug for the museum as it’s a great place to go see that is about to, over time, become much better – and they are always looking for volunteers and new members! We then went on to the riverfront park in Parkville, Missouri to do some nice shots in a natural setting. We were both scared of running into a snake near the creek, but we survived sans snake sightings.

This shot isn’t done justice until it’s viewed SUPER big. The black and white version is quite stunning, too.
