The streak of wonderful winter weather continued for Carlo and Dora’s wonderful, intimate wedding at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art surrounded by close friends and family. What a wonderful group! For the second week, my wedding party decided to shoot at Liberty Memorial, so I was thankful we didn’t have horrendous winds to deal with due to the elevation of the site. We also hit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art while out and about town. This couple is just SO connected. Which made them so easy to photograph – even though Dora and Carlo live in the eastern US and didn’t get an opportunity to shoot an engagement session to get to know me beforehand. Didn’t matter with these two! Congratulations, Carlo and Dora, and enjoy your long Hawaiian honeymoon!

What was there NOT to like about this wedding day? It was well over 60 degrees here in the middle United States on December 31st. The wedding was at a gorgeous church – Cathedral of St. Peter in Kansas City, Kansas. The reception was at one of my favorite venues – the Hilton President. There were HORSE PEOPLE at this wedding. Who wanted to go take picture around horse and cattle-related stuff. Always a plus in this lifelong-equestrienne’s book And Mike Tsai was second shooting and as usual did a smack-up job. The only downfall was that the wind was a-howlin’ across the prairie – but, we’ll take that if it’s nearly 65 degrees in late December!

This wraps up my weddings for 2011. 35 of them. It was a crazy-busy (and sometimes downright crazy) year – although I accepted less weddings than in 2010 (a whopping 4 less ), I took on more portrait sessions. Thank you to all of my clients from the bottom of my heart for your business, and for being patient when 24 hours (ok, well maybe not 24, but there were LOTS of 16-18 hour days in there) just weren’t enough to answer all of the emails and phone calls, keep up on editing and album design, and go shoot booked sessions and weddings. We made it though and in fine style!

Cameon and Joe, thanks for having Mike and I capture your wedding day and ring in the New Year with you. Thank you for being so sweet and hospitable and such fun to work with. Congratulations and Cameon, if you eventually start your veterinary practice in this area, well, you just may have a new client.

Michele and Matt were married on an uncharacteristically warm November day – so warm, that when I left the hair/makeup prep location, my car thermometer read 77 degrees! Thanks to Mike Tsai for helping me photograph Michele and Matt’s wedding day. Gorgeous bride, not-so-shabby groom, incredible wedding party, fantastic weather, elegant traditional church ceremony and incredible party at the reception – what more could a photographer ask for? Since I’m getting these online just before my turkey dinner, travel having disrupted my usual “Wedding Wednesday” – I’ll leave the rhetoric to a minimum and let the photos do the talking! I greatly anticipated Sara and Rick’s wedding. Sara’s mother Stephanie promised lots of gorgeous details (she was right, but I had no reason to doubt her as she’d hired my former shop-mate Shana Vaughn Designs to do the floral work!). Hawthorne House is probably my favorite venue in Kansas City to shoot. And most importantly, in shooting Rick and Sara’s engagement session, I knew this was a couple who was deeply, madly in love with each other and who were a LOT of fun to be around. Seriously, what a blast! And so, these two were married on a gorgeous, mid-60 degree November day, surrounded by caring family and fun friends. Lots of tears, lots of laughs, all of which are shown below. Enjoy.

Kassy and Cody first shot with me last winter for their engagement session, RIGHT after a snowstorm (the roads were still marginally bad) – Cody was home from deployment so it was kind of a “must-do” situation that turned out to be one of my favorite sessions of the year. This time around, for their Club 1000 wedding, they had PICTURE PERFECT weather. What a sweet, loving couple. I absolutely got choked up several times during their wedding (and this photographer sees a LOT of weddings ) and who couldn’t love the doggie ring-bearer “assistant” Bagel? (Who couldn’t love a name like BAGEL!) Without further adieu, here’s the story of their day, in pictures.

Abigail and Jesus Michael have the most touching connection I think I have ever seen. They are one of those couples that requires zero coaching – they get together, and what happens is so natural and so electric that all I have to do is just shoot away. Abigail and JM chose to do a first look at Unity Village, and then they and their wedding party shot around the grounds a bit before we headed to the church for the ceremony. After they were married, the couple, myself and second shooter Nancy Sikes headed to a park near Liberty to shoot some GORGEOUS sunset shots. I’m so glad we had the time to do so. Then on to the reception at Heritage Hall, located just off the historic square in Liberty – for a party FULL of dancing. I’ve never seen so many guests crowd a dance floor! WOW! Abigail and JM themselves tore it up during their first dance, what an amazing thing to photograph! Here’s the story of their day, from the early makeup and hair right through to their sparkler exit from the reception.

I shot Katherine and Kevin’s engagement session last year before they’d finalized their wedding plans. They were so much fun to work with and so much fun to photograph that I was really excited when Katherine contacted me about doing their wedding photography as well. This wedding was FANTASTIC. Sure, it stormed (hard) during parts of the day, but it didn’t really affect this couple’s grand plans – we still got some outside shooting in, and the ceremony in the cavernous, gorgeous Redemptorist followed by the insane party at the Uptown Theater a few short blocks away was a night to remember. Hannah Klamann did a fantastic job pulling everything together, and through family traditions and friends’ traditions (the groomsmen serenaded Kevin with “Hero” during the reception) the day really had a lot of meaning and fun. Many thanks to the multitalented Mike Tsai for second shooting!

Emily and Cory win the award for best light at a wedding in 2011. WOW. They also win something for one of the most fun receptions. Half of the shots from the reception, as I was browsing through them in the wee hours of the morning this morning, made me laugh out loud! What a fun crowd, what a laid-back, relaxed day, what a gorgeous venue at Hillcrest Country Club. Nancy Sikes assisted and shot with me for the second day in a row! Just a quick note before getting to the photos – with two of my biggest weddings of the year (in terms of length of coverage) this weekend, I’m closing up shop beginning this afternoon to get some R&R and enjoy my own Labor Day weekend. I’ll be back in the office and back to normal operations next Tuesday with the rest of the working world. Have a GREAT and SAFE last weekend of summer, everyone!
