The streak of wonderful winter weather continued for Carlo and Dora’s wonderful, intimate wedding at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art surrounded by close friends and family. What a wonderful group! For the second week, my wedding party decided to shoot at Liberty Memorial, so I was thankful we didn’t have horrendous winds to deal with due to the elevation of the site. We also hit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art while out and about town. This couple is just SO connected. Which made them so easy to photograph – even though Dora and Carlo live in the eastern US and didn’t get an opportunity to shoot an engagement session to get to know me beforehand. Didn’t matter with these two! Congratulations, Carlo and Dora, and enjoy your long Hawaiian honeymoon!

What was there NOT to like about this wedding day? It was well over 60 degrees here in the middle United States on December 31st. The wedding was at a gorgeous church – Cathedral of St. Peter in Kansas City, Kansas. The reception was at one of my favorite venues – the Hilton President. There were HORSE PEOPLE at this wedding. Who wanted to go take picture around horse and cattle-related stuff. Always a plus in this lifelong-equestrienne’s book And Mike Tsai was second shooting and as usual did a smack-up job. The only downfall was that the wind was a-howlin’ across the prairie – but, we’ll take that if it’s nearly 65 degrees in late December!

This wraps up my weddings for 2011. 35 of them. It was a crazy-busy (and sometimes downright crazy) year – although I accepted less weddings than in 2010 (a whopping 4 less ), I took on more portrait sessions. Thank you to all of my clients from the bottom of my heart for your business, and for being patient when 24 hours (ok, well maybe not 24, but there were LOTS of 16-18 hour days in there) just weren’t enough to answer all of the emails and phone calls, keep up on editing and album design, and go shoot booked sessions and weddings. We made it though and in fine style!

Cameon and Joe, thanks for having Mike and I capture your wedding day and ring in the New Year with you. Thank you for being so sweet and hospitable and such fun to work with. Congratulations and Cameon, if you eventually start your veterinary practice in this area, well, you just may have a new client.

Michele and Matt were married on an uncharacteristically warm November day – so warm, that when I left the hair/makeup prep location, my car thermometer read 77 degrees! Thanks to Mike Tsai for helping me photograph Michele and Matt’s wedding day. Gorgeous bride, not-so-shabby groom, incredible wedding party, fantastic weather, elegant traditional church ceremony and incredible party at the reception – what more could a photographer ask for? Since I’m getting these online just before my turkey dinner, travel having disrupted my usual “Wedding Wednesday” – I’ll leave the rhetoric to a minimum and let the photos do the talking! siblings being silly

the ladies quickly found a way to seek shelter from those CRAZY (chilly) winds!

when we got back to Memorial Hall and completed the family photos, we had about 30 minutes until ceremony time. I’d envisioned this shot in the cavernous arena all afternoon – and had just minutes to bring it to life (Andrea wanted a dancing shot – one taken outside of the reception!)

I greatly anticipated Sara and Rick’s wedding. Sara’s mother Stephanie promised lots of gorgeous details (she was right, but I had no reason to doubt her as she’d hired my former shop-mate Shana Vaughn Designs to do the floral work!). Hawthorne House is probably my favorite venue in Kansas City to shoot. And most importantly, in shooting Rick and Sara’s engagement session, I knew this was a couple who was deeply, madly in love with each other and who were a LOT of fun to be around. Seriously, what a blast! And so, these two were married on a gorgeous, mid-60 degree November day, surrounded by caring family and fun friends. Lots of tears, lots of laughs, all of which are shown below. Enjoy.

Kristen, Brendan, their families and wedding party were a blast to work with. Their wedding last Saturday at Hillcrest Christian Church (and reception at Ball Conference Center) were CHOCK FULL of personal touches – Kristen’s mother did the decor! This was truly a fall wedding – everything about the colors and the day screamed out “October!” And our stop after the wedding to do bride and groom and wedding party portraits? I really don’t need to say anything, just look at the images below. Timed oh-so-perfectly with the absolute best light of the day, these are some of my favorite images of 2011. I’ve known Christine for quite some time so I’ve looked forward to her wedding all season. She and Bayler had a fantastic wedding day; the weather here in the midwest continues to be extremely dry and mild, which bodes well for all of the fall weddings on the schedule! In fact, it was almost TOO warm! Rather than try to describe the day, I’ll let the photos do the talking this time – it’s late and I want to get this up so Christine and Bayler can see their sneak preview. Katy and Corey are both artists, and Corey is an avid photographer himself. So they had planned their day SO WELL to allow for incredible shots – and of course this photogenic bunch and incredible families didn’t hurt at all. I mean, Katy’s dad and his crazy laughs! We started the day with prep at the Hyatt Regency, then headed to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for the duo’s first look and some wedding party photos. After the ceremony at the OLD, GORGEOUS St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on the east side of downtown Kansas City, we shot around town right at sunset before heading into the Cadillac Room for the party – and it WAS a party ,partly due to Craig Loftis of Elite Sounds Entertainment and his incredible DJ skills. The dance floor was HOPPING! Katy and Corey are enjoying a honeymoon in Barcelona (!) so I’m super excited for them to get back and see their sneak peek. Here you go, guys!
