Well, not quite Thanksgiving. The day before. Dan and Lauren had JUST landed at KCI, and we did their engagement session pretty much immediately thereafter as I was headed out of town to visit my family in Kentucky bright and early Thanksgiving morning. We are so glad we got it in, since it may have been their only opportunity before their April wedding here in KC! And did we ever – it was in the 70s and sunny! Loved working with these two. And brides-to-be….let me tell you. I know it’s cold and all, and I know I keep saying this, but there is nothing like winter light. Nothing.

Look for these two back here in April!

Kristin + Matt | a Kansas country engagement session

Kristin and Matt are next up in batting order (ha ha, get the baseball reference Matt?) on the blog. I had a lot of fun with these two on our second attempt at their engagement session, rain and soaked ground getting us the first time around. It almost got us the second time around too; it was storming when I awoke for our morning session but alas the weather guessers said it was nice and clear over parts south of downtown. I headed out on a wing and a prayer and although the clouds spread southward, it was dry for our session and honestly, the storms passing off to our north made for some awesome soft light. LOVED it. Did NOT love the tiny snake (which Matt reported as a copperhead. Eck.) we saw on our session, which broke my almost 18-month long streak of sessions/weddings with no snake viewings. Believe me, I keep track. Kristin and Matt, I loved exploring rural Olathe with the two of you and can’t wait for your October wedding! Back to editing I go – there’s lots more to yet step up to the plate from other clients who can’t wait to see their previews!

Jennifer + Nate | a rustic country Kansas engagement session

November 14th, 2011

Jennifer and Nate met me on a blustery afternoon last week for their engagement session – but who cares, with light and scenery THIS gorgeous? You can look for them in equally gorgeous scenery next fall at their Weston Red Barn Farm wedding! (ps Nate, hope you got a deer last weekend 😉 !)

Danyelle and Beau: engaged | University of Kansas campus and Clinton Lake

I hate hate HATE being late. Even five minutes late and I’ve got sweaty palms and raised blood pressure. So you can imagine the stress-fest that was occurring in my lil’ old Pontiac Grand Am and I sat at a standstill for THREE MILES in the queue to get through the toll plaza onto the Kansas Turnpike last Sunday (who would have thought my timing with the end of the NASCAR race at Kansas Speedway would be SO exquisite?), THEN another standstill due to an accident in the construction zone on the turnpike near Lawrence. Thank God for GPS, I bailed off the highway at Eudora and took back roads into Lawrence – but not without being 45 minutes late. Yes, 45 MINUTES. Danyelle and Beau were SO patient, though, and we worked quickly all over Lawrence and then out to Clinton Lake with the daylight we had. Once we reached the vista that the two had heard about overlooking the lake, the sun had finally dropped below the horizon. We made it work though, and the end result were my favorite shots from the session!

You will see more of these two next spring when they get married! You better bet I’ll be there with bells on HOURS in advance. 😉
