The second of last weekend’s doubleheader was Danielle and Tyler – they of the right-up-my-alley aviation-themed engagement shoot last spring 🙂 These two had just as gorgeous a day as Ashlee and Chris had the day before – sunny, light breeze, PERFECT temperature. It was another awesome day and this one was so filled with emotion and “awww” moments that myself and second shooter Mike Tsai were able to capture, that there’s a fair amount of photojournalistic shots in this blog post. From Danielle’s touching, tearful opening of Tyler’s card and present to all of the incredible moments we captured during the reception, this day was SO full of “awwww….” moments. Here they are!

And the luck of a Topeka fire truck in the Wendy’s parking lot by the state capitol; Aaron’s a Topeka firefighter so it only was fitting we got some photos by it! Lyn Scardina again did a fantastic day of planning this wedding with a fabulous reception at the Great Overland Station. Many thanks to Nancy Sikes for assisting and shooting along side me. Congrats to you two and I hope you are having a great time in Costa Rica!!

And here we are, folks – the wedding season is already halfway over. Jill and Joel’s wedding followed the same theme as many of this summer’s weddings, and certainly all of July’s – HOT – with actual temperatures in Manhattan registering right around 102 degrees. This wedding was a fun one despite the extreme heat – we had a fun wedding party that, after the ceremony, raced around Manhattan on the party bus getting fun shots at about every landmark in town. We had two fathers who gave SUPER awesome toasts – Joel’s dad had me laughing with his creative “presentation” (and it was just that – he PREPARED!). And we had Willie the Wildcat. What else would you expect at a wedding reception held in the Kansas State University Alumni Center? Below are the photos, from my last “Wedding Wednesday” blog post for a few weeks. Yours truly is departing Friday on a 9 day vacation (did I mention the studio will be closed? 😉 ) – my blogging is updated until I return and start shooting again, but please DO look for, in the place of the usual WW highlight blogs, two informational wedding posts, the first of which will be an article on simple ways that you, as bride and groom, can make your wedding pictures even MORE fabulous.

Well, I’m signing off for a while (a quick note that while on vacation I will only be checking email and voicemail every several days – I’m camping so it’s a bit difficult to stay connected, but that’s what vacation is for, right) – but I leave you with Jill, Joel, Willie the Wildcat, a crazy wedding party, some loving parents, a lot of HOT PINK details…and a super fabulous wedding day.

xoxo

Sarah

Abby and Brad are awesome. I truly enjoyed working with these two – and Abby’s kids Parker and Payton – all the way through their engagement and wedding. Abby was always chock full of location ideas and as you can see, it paid off on their wedding day! Last Saturday dawned cold and windy – and cloudy – but at least dry. From the fun times while the wedding parties got ready, right through the two’s super-sweet first look, and on to our shooting around Atchison and the reception, the day was a blast! I’m super excited about the bride and groom shots we got of the two, as well. Many thanks to Mike Tsai for once again second shooting, and Abby and Brad – with as chilly and dreary as it’s been here lately (and CONTINUES to be…), I’m super jealous of you two in Jamaica!!

Katie + Jeremy: married | Marysville, Kansas

For the second week in a row, myself and my second shooter Dale Foshe were blessed (tongue-in-cheek) with rain on wedding day – last week’s was a hot, steamy, summer-like storming rain, and this past Saturday’s wedding with Katie and Jeremy was the opposite – a downpour followed by a cold, windy, drizzly day that was more representative of a mid-November day. Meaning, I’m glad I brought LAYERS.

Undaunted, everyone forged ahead with the day and luckily the timing was such that it was dry when we needed to be outdoors. Married at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in tiny Beattie, Kansas, Jeremy and Katie went back to their roots for their wedding day (Jeremy’s great-great-grandfather (or maybe there is another great in there – one of the FitzGerald family can correct me!) founded the town – and we shot in front of the old stone house he lived in). The house was a surprise to me  – and so, so cool!

Here are the highlights of their day.

Stephanie and Cole: married | Hays, Kansas

Where to start with this day? I really looked forward to Stephanie and Cole’s wedding day, that is, except for the 4+ hour trek across Kansas at o’dark thirty towards Hays. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – something about central and western Kansas fascinates me. It’s GORGEOUS. Yeah right, Sarah? No, it truly is. And just as amazing are the people. Not only does everyone know everyone, but true small-town Americana still exists. People wave as complete strangers drive by. In tiny Schoenchen, Kansas, where Stephanie and Cole both reside and where they were married in the sole church in town – St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, houses aren’t referred to as “the gray house on the corner” or the 4th house down from the stopsign”, they are referred to as so-and-so’s house.

I first worked with these two when I drove to Hays in June for their engagement session. It remains one of my favorites. I was excited about some of the ideas I had for the wedding, and I was thankful we had the time to hit one or two of the locations. Even among the big celebration that was the day – the exit from the church on a tractor, the mean two-stepping at the reception (I was afraid I was going to get MOWED DOWN), and the insane western Kansas wind, the feeling of family and togetherness among everyone in the town and everyone in attendance (wait, I think everyone in town WAS in attendance!) was amazing.

Here’s a little taste of their day.

Erin and Mike: married | Emporia Granada Theater

Erin and Mike planned their wedding long-distance, as they are both attending graduate school in Mississippi. Erin’s a native of Emporia, though, and I was excited to shoot at some new venues. And both the ceremony and reception venue were absolutely gorgeous – and historic. The Granada Theater was the stage (no pun intended) for their ceremony, and the Emporia State University’s Memorial Union Ballroom played host to the reception with WONDERFUL live music.

I first shot with Erin and Mike early last spring on the Country Club Plaza for their engagement session. As they were in from Mississippi, they had a narrow window in which to do the shoot and they got lucky with a gorgeous Thursday evening in the seventies. Little did we know that 48 hours later I’d be shooting Tammy and Brian’s reception in the middle of a snowstorm! Ah, spring in the midwest.

This was a fun day, even though hot (a recurring theme at weddings all around this summer!) and as I’ve encoutered a lot this season, full of very close-knit, loving family and friends. Hopefully, you can get at least a bit of a flavor of the day in my shots below. Thanks to my second-shooter, Jill Steinheider, who stepped in at the VERY LAST MINUTE when my scheduled second had a conflict – she did a wonderful job! A few of the images below are hers.

Mike started off the day with a surprise for Erin – a bracelet from David Yurman.

Erin and Mike did a “first look” on the ESU campus. The photos are SUPER CUTE, but since I have scads of others to post, I’ve left them out so the post isn’t a mile long!
