Kristin and Matt had a fabulous day and a fabulous party to celebrate their new marriage – who doesn’t love a band to dance to? The ever-gorgeous Hawthorne House in Parkville, Missouri set the stage for their wedding and reception, however we tooled all around Kansas City to take photographs of these two and their wedding party, hitting some of the more iconic spots in town.

These two closed out an extremely busy September and October in grand fashion!

Parul + Pete | doubly married at Union Station

Second shooter Tina Kraemer and I set an all time record for number of images captured during Parul and Pete’s wedding day. No surprise here – they were married in a Catholic ceremony at St. Francis Xavier, followed later in the day by a Hindu ceremony preceding the reception at Kansas City’s Union Station. So – two sets of prep shots, two ceremonies, two sets of family formals, two sets of bride and groom portraits…it becomes easy to see why so many images as the day was full of events to document! Below are highlights (and I mean tip of the iceberg highlights!) from the day!

The streak of wonderful winter weather continued for Carlo and Dora’s wonderful, intimate wedding at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art surrounded by close friends and family. What a wonderful group! For the second week, my wedding party decided to shoot at Liberty Memorial, so I was thankful we didn’t have horrendous winds to deal with due to the elevation of the site. We also hit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art while out and about town. This couple is just SO connected. Which made them so easy to photograph – even though Dora and Carlo live in the eastern US and didn’t get an opportunity to shoot an engagement session to get to know me beforehand. Didn’t matter with these two! Congratulations, Carlo and Dora, and enjoy your long Hawaiian honeymoon!

I was blessed with two amazing couples last weekend. Sunday’s wedding brought Victoria and Anthony to Kansas City from Washington, DC. Both of these two are absolutely DELIGHTFUL and Victoria, what can I say? She’s SO HAPPY. All the time. This was the weekend of the radiant bride! The day went like clockwork and other than a bit of heat, couldn’t have been more perfect for these two. We actually did SOME of their portraiture in a coffee shop, though, so we didn’t swelter – Victoria and Anthony arranged for the owner of the Hard Bean in Grandview to open up just a short while for us to get some shots inside! SUPER cute. As far as the reception – I’ve never shot at Fiorella’s before, but I must say they saved the DAY when the two’s wedding cake did not show. Victoria kept her cool and you NEVER would have known anything went wrong. Fiorella’s brought over a fantastic flourless chocolate cake concoction on a bed of strawberries for them to cut…and a short while later emerged with the most AMAZING cake for ALL of the guests. What a way to save the day! Victoria and Anthony, congratulations to you BOTH and I know you have many, many happy years ahead of you! What an amazing pair. (can I use the word “amazing” any more?) Thanks to Mike Tsai for second shooting!

Shannon and Damien had the most amazing wedding day. From the perfect weather to the touching ceremony to the absolutely crazy reception, it was a long day but I never noticed it. Neither did my second shooter, Mike Tsai – between the two of us, we shot a record number of images. I’ve spent the entire day, in fact, narrowing down the selection to the “keepers”, it’s taken that long. In the process, I’ve chosen a few images to blog – but this is merely a third of the images I selected for the blog (I’m not going to blog 120 images!). So, what you see below is just a taste of the day. So many more moments deserve to be here to TRULY get a feel for Shannon and Damien’s wedding – the touching first moments with Shannon’s dads, the toasts, the entrance to “Funkytown” (yes, Shannon and Damien met at Funkytown!) – but hopefully what I’ve selected below will give you a feel for the day. Special thanks go to their planner, Kevin Joles with theThe Kansas City Event Company, who did a FANTASTIC job of making the day run smoothly. Without further adieu, let’s take a peek at last Saturday!

…and into the reception in the nick of time. What a reception it was!! Everything from the “special groomsmen’s dance” (which consisted of them all putting on brown paper bags and dancing and being “eliminated” one at a time, when truly they all left one poor guy out there all alone thinking he still had others out there with him), to the ringbearer showing us one-handed pushups, to the crazy piano serenade by Damien in the foyer, it was a BLAST.

Erin and Scott have these infectious smiles. Smiles I discovered when shooting their engagement session last fall, and smiles that grew bigger on their wedding day last Saturday (which, by the way, had to have been the most picture-perfect day for a wedding that was ever created). Their connection is genuine and that makes photographing the two of them truly easy. The wedding party was a blast, too (sometimes a bit too much 😉 ) and the whole afternoon was just a lot of fun for me. As you’ll be able to see below, it was a lot of fun for EVERYONE. Congratulations, Erin and Scott! Thanks to Lori Fetterling for assisting me!!

Shannon and David were the second of two weddings in my doubleheader weekend last weekend – like Lauren and Nick, I also did their engagement session that you can see here. Both couples were an absolute joy to work with – this wedding with my assistant Lori – and really made us feel like we were a part of the day (Shannon INSISTED I stay and have a beverage when we were done shooting, then INSISTED I take my time posting these images because “you work too hard!” 😉 ).

David was so funny to work with, he had all these funny shot ideas, and kept coming up to me and going over his ideas with me. One of which you will see below. He was so into the photography – it was too funny.

Despite the WICKED heat, and an overzealous Nelson-Atkins security guard (which was the source of some humor as many of the male side of the wedding party, David included, are police officers), we got SOME outdoor shots done. The heat was SEARING and I’m sure everyone hated me – I made sure I pointed out the other wedding parties suffering at the Nelson (“hey look! you aren’t in this alone!”) but nevertheless we moved quickly.

I’m REALLY good at droning on so – here are the images before I bore you all to tears. Shannon and David, enjoy Mexico, which I’ll bet is actually COOLER than Kansas City.

ok. here was one of David’s ideas. He wanted the wedding party to look like they were playing football for a shot. Corny? Yes. Did it turn out pretty funny in retrospect? Yes. (not to mention we drew a little attention while setting this one up!)

Back in the comfort of air conditioning at the Villas, David brought Shannon a card. Which was in a Halloween envelope, complete with pumpkins. We all had a laugh but at the same time – it was totally something my own husband would have done – so funny yet so cute and endearing at the same time!
