Sarah K | Nelson-Atkins Museum senior portraits

What a fun senior session I had with Sarah (nice name!) at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art last week. Such an elegant setting and really fit well with her desire to incorporate her viola into the session a bit. And those tomato-red shoes – I WANT! 🙂 I’ll let the pictures do the talking, as […]

For those of you who may have read through the article I wrote and posted right here about ways to get the most out of your engagement session – Jennifer and Greg just SCHOOLED you. I knew from the first click these two were seriously into each other. They laughed. They hugged. They shared a few “awww” moments. I might as well have not been there…but that would have been a shame, as there wouldn’t be any images! Jennifer and Greg are fairly recent transplants to the area, Topeka specifically, originally hailing from the southeastern US. Why did they choose the Nelson? Because Greg popped the question right there! It was nice to be out shooting again, after week upon week of horrid temperatures that sent even the most brave clients scurrying for a/c. Even this session was a bit toasty at times – nothing in comparison to 109 degrees, though! These two will be tying the knot NEXT MONTH in Atlanta, Georgia – and one thing is for sure, their wedding photographer is very fortunate to be working with a couple so naturally connected! 🙂

Lauren + Will | Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Country Club Plaza engagement

Lauren and Will got the one “cool” day last week for their session (but not before rescheduling from a 100 degree day). 85 was the high last Wednesday, which admittedly seems COOL. The humidity was still quite high though – and we ended up nice and sweaty, despite temps almost 15 degrees less than what seems to be the average lately. Sure enough, my shoot schedule has been pretty wide open this month – the shoots I have had scheduled have almost all pushed back into August hoping for cooler weather. Midsummer here can almost seem like winter – but it’s the calm before the storm as fall is already starting to schedule in! Lauren and Will have got that natural connection – the one I love, as photographer, to shoot – as they required little to no directing. I found they started “ad libbing” pretty early on in the session – I LOVE couples who are this comfortable in front of the camera as it not only makes my job easy, but the shots look natural and authentic. These two are fairly recent transplants to Kansas City, and are planning a New Year’s Eve wedding in Columbia. Congrats and best wishes you two!

I met Glori and Toby at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art late one afternoon about a week and a half ago; before the snow hit, before the bottom fell out on the temperatures. It was actually a mild afternoon! The light was glorious on the lawn at the Nelson; even more, these two were so into each other and the session. Light, laughter, love, what more could a portrait photographer want? We then headed to the Plaza branch of the Kansas City Public Library; Glori had said we could leave the stop out if we ran short on time (they really wanted to finish with a shot with the lights on the Plaza) – I’m glad we didn’t as these two are admitted bookworms and the setting was SO fun. I love working couples’ interests into their sessions – and although I was a bit worried about shooting in the library, the security guard smiled and winked at us as she walked by. 🙂
