Sara and Patrick are SO fun to work with – I’ve never worked with a couple so full of laughs and jokes. Their extended engagement session was a blast so it was no surprise their wedding day was as well. Even got to spend some time with my husband Jim at the reception as he was a guest! Just a great day all around 🙂 Below is the slideshow and a few highlight photos as well – enjoy!

Lei + Darcy | an elegant Redemptorist and Hotel Phillips wedding

Lei and Darcy live out of state, so we had to do most of the planning for their wedding day photography long-distance. In fact, the first time I met Darcy was on their wedding day! It didn’t matter, these two had such a connection and natural way in front of the camera it might as well have been our 5th time working together. For the second week in a row, we had gorgeous temperatures (especially for August!) with highs in the low 80s and a thin veil of clouds graced us while we were out shooting, blotting out the midday sun and giving us gorgeous, soft light. Darcy and Lei’s family, if I heard correctly, traveled a total of over 20,000 miles to attend their wedding day – impressive given the smaller, intimate nature of their celebration. In fact, a quick glance through their guestbook showed guests from all reaches of not only the US, but the world!

Here’s a quick glance into their day.

Katherine + Kevin | Redemptorist and Uptown Theater Kansas City wedding

I shot Katherine and Kevin’s engagement session last year before they’d finalized their wedding plans. They were so much fun to work with and so much fun to photograph that I was really excited when Katherine contacted me about doing their wedding photography as well. This wedding was FANTASTIC. Sure, it stormed (hard) during parts of the day, but it didn’t really affect this couple’s grand plans – we still got some outside shooting in, and the ceremony in the cavernous, gorgeous Redemptorist followed by the insane party at the Uptown Theater a few short blocks away was a night to remember. Hannah Klamann did a fantastic job pulling everything together, and through family traditions and friends’ traditions (the groomsmen serenaded Kevin with “Hero” during the reception) the day really had a lot of meaning and fun. Many thanks to the multitalented Mike Tsai for second shooting!

Kat and Kevin’s first look at the Uptown was super different – they pulled the stage curtains apart to reveal the two!

We then caught a break in the rain to head to the River Market for a few shots. LOVE it.

Erin + Shawn | Redemptorist + Crowne Plaza Kansas City wedding

Erin and Shawn are one of those couples. You know, one of those couples you are around 5 minutes and you just KNOW they have it made. Forever. They’re so damn cute together. Of course that makes for incredible wedding photos. I selected an INSANE amount of blog candidates – and this is maybe, oh, 25% of them? If that. Heather Brulez was my super-talented 2nd for the day (a few of the images below are hers), and what a day it was – from my early morning drive to Erin’s mom’s house in Lenexa in a driving rainstorm (I had to pull to the side of the interstate for about 10 minutes as I couldn’t see where I was going!), to the late morning ceremony at the cavernous, but beautiful, Redemptorist in Midtown, to the SIX HOURS we had to wander the city and shoot! (SIX HOURS.) Needless to say, I didn’t bother the poor wedding party with 6 hours of photography – we took a couple-hour break in the middle to veg and cool off at McFadden’s in Power & Light and let the guys have pizza and beer. We still had a plethora of portraiture! The reception at Crowne Plaza offered incredible views of the city from all directions, and a spectacular sunset that Shawn was DETERMINED for his guests to see 🙂 Ok, enough gushing about this couple – I know they are anxiously awaiting this blog post as Shawn has already emailed me asking when it would be up today HA! Ok guys, here you go. Best wishes to the two of you!! And for the faithful blog-followers, we’ll have a two-fer Thursday as Victoria and Anthony’s (a super sweet couple in their own right!) wedding will be up tomorrow!
